Local Notes: Glencorrib GWS receive award at 2026 GWS Excellence Awards during Rural Water Services Conference

Ballinrobe are in intermediate football championship semi-final action next Saturday, October 3, when they face Moy Davitts in Garrymore, at 7.30pm. A large attendance is expected for what should be one of the games of the weekend. Your support for the maroon and yellow would be appreciated.
There was no winner of the €5,800 lotto jackpot draw which was held on Monday, September 21. The numbers drawn were 5, 17, 27 and 33. The match three winner of €300 was Stephen Keane.
Ballinrobe Bears (underage mini rugby for children) takes place at The Green every Saturday at 10am. New players are welcome. The club held its weekly 50/50 draw on Sunday, September 20, with Adrian O’Malley the winner of €425. Anyone who would like to volunteer with Ballinrobe Rugby Club for the upcoming season is asked to contact any committee member.
The Fairhill House Hotel, Clonbur, will organise a Sleep Out for Simon in aid of the Galway Simon Community on Friday, October 2, from 6pm through to 6am, on Saturday, October 3. This is the third year running that the team at Fairhill House Hotel have organised such an event. The team have received tremendous support in the two previous events and every donation, no matter how big or small, is greatly appreciated.

The organisers of the Cong Halloween Parade are seeking performers, artists and display makers, street entertainers, musicians and drummers, costume groups, spooky characters, and anyone who feels that they can contribute to what is always a popular event. Those interested in taking part are asked to direct message the Cong Halloween Parade Facebook page.
Meanwhile, a Halloween costume swap shop event will take place in Cong Community Centre, on Saturday, October 3, from 11am to 1pm. It is an opportunity to reuse costumes and reduce waste. The swap shop will have Halloween costumes for all ages and donations are welcome.

Congratulations to Lake District Athletic Club member Barry Langan who was one of seven talented Mayo athletes presented with the Sheridan McDonnell Sports Bursary Award for 2026. The bursary recognises and supports the sporting achievements of exceptional young athletes in Mayo. A fantastic achievement for all involved.
Cross country training for boys and girls aged 12 and over, takes place every Sunday from 9.45am to 10.55am at Ballinrobe Racecourse. All abilities are welcome and it is a great opportunity to make new friends and be part of a team.
The Lakeside Badminton Club for Primary School and Secondary School students takes place in the Lakeside Sport and Fitness Centre, Station Road, every Wednesday. The time for Primary School pupils is from 4.30 to 5.45p.m., and secondary pupils is from 6 to 7.15pm. These coaching sessions are suitable for all levels, and those taking part can improve their technique, skills, as well as making new friends. The cost to take part is €60 for Badminton Ireland members, and €80 for non-members.

A free eight-week course for parents of children aged 6-12 with ADHD will take place in the Tacú Family Resource Centre, Main Street, every Tuesday from October 13 to December 8 (break for Halloween), running from 9.45am to 12.15pm. The course will help parents cope and manage stress; understand ADHD; help their child gain confidence and self-esteem; help their child build friendships and navigate school; problem-solve and deal with challenges; understand the role of medication.

The Roundfort, Robeen and Carras Parish Magazine committee are inviting submissions for the 2026 parish magazine. Given that three local men; Stephen Coen, Enda Hession and Eoin McGreal, were involved in Mayo's All-Ireland victory, the committee are particularly keen to include stories, articles, pictures and other memories people have of Mayo winning Sam Maguire. The numbers drawn in the Mayo Gaels lotto which was held on Tuesday, September 22, were 4, 7, 14 and 21. There was no jackpot winner, and the €30 winners were Paddy Lavin, Elizabeth Trench, Liam Glynn and Jimmy Kilkenny. The jackpot in the draw to be held this evening, Tuesday, September 29, is €5,200.
Social Dinner takes place every Tuesday in the Mayo Abbey Centre but must be booked in advance. The centre offers free computer/smartphone support for beginners, hot desk spaces with fibre broadband connections suitable for virtual meetings or interviews. It is the pick up and drop off point for Local Link Bus Service which goes to Castlebar daily Tuesday to Saturday and Claremorris every Thursday.
