Knockmore

Mick Reape fondly remembered

The late Mick Reape, Toneybane, Knockmore, who has died was former president of Knockmore GAA Club, father of former Knockmore footballer Pat Reape and grandad of the present Mayo senior goalkeeper, Colum Reape.

Mick passed away peacefully at the Riverview Nursing Home, Ballina, on Wednesday, July 3, following an illness. His remains reposed at his residence on the Friday evening with his removal taking place to Christ the King Church, Knockmore, for his 12 noon Requiem Mass where he was met by a Guard of Honour formed by former and present Knockmore players and members while huge crowds gathered in the churh to remember and pay their final respects to a much loved member of the community. Symbols of his life were brought to the altar by family members at the beginning of Mass, ie a family photo showing his love for family, fishing reel showing his love for fishing, football jersey depicting his love of football, a sod of turf a reminder of the many days spent saving the turf, a photograph of his milk truck he drove on his daily milk collection and a rosary beads showing is dedication to his daily prayer.

During the homily he was remembered as a person with great Christian values. A beloved husband to his late wife Eileen, a beloved father, grandad and loyal brother, great neighbour and friend.

Mick was son of the late Thomas and Mary Reape, Toneybane, and a member of a family of eleven. He was married to the late Eileen Dunne, a parish native and they had a family of four, a family who were dedicated to his care always and will now miss him so very much. Predeceased by his parents, son John, sister Mary Durkan, brothers Bill, Tom, Tony, Pat and Jimmy, he is survived by his son Pat, daughters Caroline Mancini and Josephine Greavy, daughters-in-law Geraldine and Bernie, sons-in-law Mario and John, his beloved nine grandchildren, his remaining family siblings, his sisters Mary and Bridget, brothers John and Dan, many nephews, nieces, relatives and friends to whom we extend our deepest sympathy. May he now rest in peace.
