John retires after 35 years

Congratulations and best wishes are extended to John Lavelle on his retirement from Killeenduff NS. For the past 35 years, John was a vital part of the school community as their school caretaker, and his kindness and dedication touched so many lives. ‘John was like family to us all’, said a spokesperson. ‘Ane we can’t forget Tina, his incredible right-hand, who was always there to support and help out, making a huge difference in the lives of everyone at the school. Your dedication and warmth will be deeply missed. Enjoy this new chapter, you both deserve it’, they concluded.

Enniscrone Show

It’s going to be one jam packed day at the Enniscrone Show on Sunday, July 6, which is taking place at Castleconnor Sports Complex F26 P7D9. Charlene Flanagan, co-founder of Ella and Joe Cosmetics and a proud local supporter of the show for many years will be officially opening this year’s show at 12 noon at the main stage. The day will be rounded off with live music and entertainment by John Molloy in Muddy Burns where the show dance will take place from 10pm.

LPGA Girls Golf Program

Enniscrone Pitch and Putt are thrilled to announce that the LPGA Girls Golf Program is coming to Enniscrone this summer. This is a major milestone as it will be only the second LPGA Girls Golf Program in the Republic of Ireland. This fun and engaging program is designed to empower and inspire girls aged 7-16, offer them a fantastic opportunity to learn new golf skills, build confidence and make lasting friendships. Clubs will be provided if needed.

Session dates are Wednesday, July 23 from 9.30 to 10.30am; Thursday, July 24, 9.30-10.30am; Saturday, July 26, 9.30-10.30am; Wednesday, August 13, 9.30-10.30am; Thursday, August 14, 9.30-10.30am; and Saturday, August 16, 9.30-10.30am. The cost is €20 per session or €55 for any 3 sessions. Each girl will receive an official Girls Golf membership kit. Community Games

Congratulations to the Enniscrone Kilglass Community Games golfers who took part in the Pitch and Putt County finals on Saturday, June 14. They won gold for the girl’s individual event, silver for the boy’s individual event and silver for the boy’s team.

The athletes competed in the county finals at ATU on Sunday, June 15 and they all did themselves and the area proud. The U12 boys 600m gold; U12 boys 200m silver; U12 boys relay gold; U12 boys throwball bronze and the U16 girls 1500m bronze.

Stokane Community Park

Stokane Community Park are launching a new 8 week coaching block with David Cawley Coaching Academy for older boys and girls in West Sligo. This is a great opportunity to develop skills, improve fitness, and have fun in a supportive environment. The price of the 8 weeks is €100 and sibling deals apply. The coaching will be held every Wednesday from July 9 to August 27 with girls aged 11-14 from 6-7pm and boys ages 12-14 from 7.15-8.15pm.There are limited spaces with a maximum of 14 participants per group.

Nutrition and Strength training

Eoghan Rua Ladies Football Club extend thanks to Amy Roddy known as ‘Amy Roddy Coaching’ for joining the U14 and U16 girls for a talk about the basics of nutrition and strength training. Amy is a wealth of knowledge and comes from a very experienced background as a former Mayo LGFA player and Sligo Rovers player. It was an enjoyable and important talk for all the girls who really enjoyed it.

Enniscrone Kilglass GAA notes

The intermediate team suffered a 2-22 to 1-6 defeat to Shamrock Gaels in the league recently. They has a break in action last weekend, and the next game is away to Coolaney/Mullinabreena on Saturday, June 28.

On the Division 4B front, the second team returned to action on Friday evening last with an away fixture against Shamrock Gaels, in Coola.

The U18 footballers are due to begin their championship campaign away to Drumcliffe/Rosses Point on July 1.

The U115s open their championship campaign against Coolera/Strandhill on Monday, June 30.

The U13A team produced an outstanding display to land the league title in fine style on Thursday, June 12, following a 5-8 to 1-18 win over St John’s. The lads had held the upper hand but were forced to respond late on, to a strong St John’s comeback. Well done to St John’s on their contribution to a fantastic final.

It was a historic success for the club, representing a first ‘A’ title since 2004. It was just rewards for the players, their parents and the committed management team of Derek Tuffy, Ronan Tuffy, Trevor Gordon and Dermot Beglane. Well done to everyone involved.

Graduation Day at Stokane NS

Stokane NS held their graduation ceremony and Mass for their sixth class on Thursday, June 12 last. It included a lovely Mass celebrated by Fr Kelly and a musical celebration by all the pupils who got to showcase their musical talent and singing. The school extend thanks to Mr Neary for all his work throughout the year and to Ms Kilcullen who helped prepare the choir and play the accompaniment.

Mrs Bonner and Mrs Flynn spoke about teaching this particular group of students from junior infants, and those who joined further up the school, to sixth class and they had a few stories to tell. Each sixth class pupil then spoke about their favourite and most memorable times at Stokane NS. Many of their memories evoked a lot of laughter from the audience as they talked about the funny occurrences in school life.

There was a beautiful and very tasty graduation cake which was cut and enjoyed by everyone with tea and coffee. The school extend a big thank you to all the parents, grandparents and friends who joined them on the day. Graduation Day is always an emotional day for everyone, and they are delighted to their sixth class move onwards and upwards in the world. They love to get regular updates on how they are getting on and they hope that they will come back and visit them when they can.

Castleconnor

Cumann na mBunscol Shield final

Castleconnor GAA Club congratulated Corballa NS girls on winning the Cumann na mBunscol Shield final on Thursday, June 12 last, in damp conditions in Scarden, and to their teacher Ms Finnerty and Bernie Finlay, Club Development Officer at Castleconnor GAA Club.

The girls battled against a skilful Carn team in a closely fought game. The determination and teamwork of the Corballa girls came through with each girl playing their part in the final, and all the other games that led up to it.

Castleconnor Community Games

Well done to all who participated in the county finals of the Community Games which was held in Sligo on Sunday, June 15. Congratulations to Sean Gordon who won gold in the U10 100m; Caolan Mulrooney who won gold in the U14, 100m; and Lauren Mulrooney who won gold in the U16 100m. all three will go on to represent Sligo at the national finals in Carlow in August.

Other medal winners on the day were Tara Boland 35d in the 200m, and she will progress to regional finals in Athlone in August as will Shonagh Forde who finished 4th in her 200m U10. The boys U14 relay team will progress to the national finals also, this team was Caolan Mulrooney, Jack Sexton, Sonny Lynott and Donnacha Gavin.The U10 mixed relay team came home with silver medals and this team was Rory Egan, Pippa Flynn, Shonagh Forde and Sean Gordon with subs Sean Geraghty and Freya Ruane.

All the children performed very well and Castleconnor Community Games are extremely proud of all of them. Best of luck is extended to all those who are progressing to the next rounds who will not only be representing Castleconnor but Sligo as well.
