Well done to Enniscrone Kilglass GAA Intermediate team secured promotion to Division One with a hard fought win over Castleconnor in Quigabar last week. 2025 will be the first time the club will play in outright Division One since 1998.

The late Anne McGrath

The death has taken place of Anne McGrath nee Taylor, Carrowcarden, Enniscrone, Co Sligo, and formerly of Carrowmacbrien, Rathlee. Anne was predeceased by her husband Paddy, daughter Pauline, grandsons Warren and Brendan, her parents Martin and Mary Taylor, sister Pauline and brother Sean.

She was the beloved mother of Joe, Aidan, Timmy, John, Deirdre, Martin, Gerry, Declan and Niamh. She will be sadly missed also by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, relatives, neighbours and friends. Anne reposed at McGowan’s Funeral Home, Ballina, on Wednesday, July 17, from 4.30 to 6.30pm and her funeral arrived to the Star of the Sea Church, Rathlee, for requiem Mass on Thursday at 12.30pm followed by burial in St Patrick’s Cemetery, Enniscrone. May Anne rest in peace.

Donation bin for NWSPCA

Waterpoint have introduced a donation bin at their reception area for all bottles/cans with the deposit return scheme symbol and all proceeds will be donated to the Ballina NWSPCA. They are very grateful to their amazing customers who have donated so far.

Cemetery Masses

The Mass in St Patrick’s Cemetery, Kilglass/Enniscrone takes place on August Bank Holiday weekend Sunday, August 4, at 6pm. A collection will be taken up at this Mass for the upkeep of the cemetery and also for the ongoing expansion of the cemetery. Your generously will be appreciated.

The annual cemetery Mass in Roslea Cemetery, Easkey, will be held on Friday, August 2, at 7pm; Churchill Cemetery, Dromore West, on Sunday, August 4, at 12 noon; Dromard Cemetery on Saturday, July 27, at 7pm and Templeboy Cemetery, on Sunday, August 11, at 10am.

Relax with Breathwork

The Breathwork class with Ashling has been rescheduled to take place on Thursday, July 25, at 7.30pm. Anyone who registered for the initial class will automatically be booked for this new date. ‘Black Pig Run’

West Sligo Athletics Club as part of the Enniscrone Events and Black Pig Festival, are hosting the ‘Enniscrone Black Pig Run’ 5km and 10km on Monday, July 29. An online registration will open soon and there will also be registration on the night.

Blotto

The numbers drawn in the Enniscrone combined football clubs blotto on July 14, were 14, 16 and 41. There was no jackpot winner. €25 prizewinners were Tommy Connaughton, Vincent McDonnell, Robert Jacob and Marty Duffy. The jackpot at the latest draw which was held in McNulty’s Bar, on July 21, was €6000.

Enniscrone Indoor Market

Summer Art Series

West Sligo Family Resource Centre, Enniscrone, are offering a variety of free art workshops for ages 4 to 18, with artists Kathi Burke, Gearoid O’Dea and Abhainn Studio. Kathi Burke will give a workshop on July 24-25 for children aged 3-7, and Abhainn Studio on August 13 and 14, for children aged 10-14 years. This is an amazing opportunity for all kids and teenagers interested in anything creative. Eoghan Rua Ladies lotto

The numbers drawn in the Eoghan Rua Ladies weekly lotto held on July 12 last, were 13, 14, 26 and 28. €30 consolation prizes went to Mary T Connor, Damian Rooney, Shane Feeney, Patrick Clarke, and Margaret McGowan. The jackpot for the latest draw which was held on February 15, was €15,900.

Easkey Enhancement Association

Activities of the Easkey Enhancement Association which take place weekly are; the Writers Group meet every Monday at 7.30pm in the Courthouse; Table Tennis every Wednesday at 8.30pm in the Courthouse; and Wavy Crafters meet every Thursday at 10.30am in the Old Factory. Furniture sale

The selling of the excel furniture from the Dromore West Parochial House is arranged for Saturday, July 27, in the Old Church building, Leaharrow, Dromore West, with viewing from 11am. Selling will take place from12 noon and it will be conducted by Billy Heffron, Auctioneer and Valuer.

Grandparents Pilgrimage

The annual National Grandparents Pilgrimage to Knock is taking place on Sunday, July 28, with Anointing of the Sick at 2.30pm and Mass at 3pm in the Basilica.

Pole Activation Walking

Easkey Enhancement Association have just completed a 4 week session of pole activation walking and they are delighted with the great reports from all who attended including feeling more confident on uneven surfaces, great exercise, standing straighter and having better posture when using the poles. They hope to run another block session in September and if you would like to try it out, get in touch.

Easkey Enhancement Association extend thanks to John, the facilitator and to Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership who subsidised the activity for them.

Women’s Social Soccer

Summer Camp 2024

Bookings for the Waterpoint Summer Camp 2024 is now open. There will be three days of fun filled activities such as swimming, outdoor activities, rock climbing and arts and crafts. Black Pig Festival

The Black Pig Festival 2024 will take place from July 25-29, with lots of music, art, comedy, theatre, fun fair and lots more. Some of the music and comedy acts are Tabby Callaghan and Wi-Fi, Clare Sands, Graham Sweeney, Mike Hanrahan and Bridin, Doppler, Easkey Punk Choir, Vinyl Paul, Ceoltas Trad Group, relish Records, Mike Denver, Rosie Connolly, Abhainn Studio and Friends, comedian John Colleary and Niamh McGrath’s ‘Gombean’.

Other activities are markets, busking, story telling, Tonnta Adventure, exhibitions, sandcastle competition, teenage disco, harbour sup, duck race, pig on the spit, Black Pig fun run 5/10km, Waterpoint kids triathlon, art workshops with Facets Studio, Lollipop apparel and Hullabaloo Sports Day with Kilglass Enniscrone Utd.

There will be a Wellness Day with West Coast Wellness, Sage and Seer Emporium, Niamh Gallagher Coaching, CB Yoga Sligo and Cormac Noonan. During the Family Fun Day with Baby Boppers there is Jay Ryan, Flea Circus 250, Mr Majestic, Fierce Fun Faces and Eagles Flying.

Summer Pool session timetable

The new updated Summer pool session timetable at Waterpoint is as follows: Monday to Friday 9-10am adults only (lanes), 10.30-12 noon, 12.30-2pm, 2.30-4pm, 4.30-6pm (Monday to Thursday) and 6.30-7.45pm (Monday to Thursday). On Friday from 4.30-6.30pm Inflatable. The timetable for Saturday and Sunday is 11am-12.30pm, 1-2.30pm, 3-4.30pm. Bingo

Bingo is held in the Old Church, Enniscrone, every Tuesday at 8pm with doors opening at 7pm with free tea and coffee on offer. The proceeds are in aid of Western Gaels Hurling and Camogie Club. All are welcome to come along and support, and be in with a chance to win.

Castleconnor

Eoghan Durkan competing at International Chemistry Olympiad

Eoghan Durkan, Castleconnor, a leaving certificate student of St Muredach’s College, Ballina, is presently taking part in the International Chemistry Olympiad in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He is one of four students representing Ireland taking on the mammoth tasks of a five-hour laboratory practical exam and a five hour written theoretical exam. The competition which commenced on Sunday, July 21, will continue until Tuesday, July 30, is for second level students with 87 countries competing from every continent.

Eoghan competed in the Chemistry Olympiad Ireland competition at Dublin City University, taking a bronze medal in April and earning a place at the global final. His brother Brian won a bronze medal at the 2019 International Chemistry Olympiad which took place in Paris.

GAA lotto

The numbers drawn in the weekly Castleconnor GAA lotto held on July 13, were 19, 29, 39 and 40. There was no jackpot winner and no match 3 winner. The lucky dip winner was Ken Gallagher. The jackpot in the latest draw which was held on Saturday, July 20, was €22,500.
