TP McDonnell, Sons of Rest Golf Society, Enniscrone Golf Club presenting a cheque of €6730 to Mary Horkan, North West Hospice. The cheque was the proceeds of a raffle held at Christmas. Also included are Majella Walker, Occasions Jewellry (sponsor) and Michael Moylett, Captain Enniscrone Golf Club.

Niamh is Artist in Residence at the Hawks Well Theatre

Niamh McGrath, Enniscrone, has been announced as the Artist in Residence for 2025, in the Hawk’s Well Theatre, Sligo. Niamh is an actor, playwright and director. Her acclaimed one-woman show, GomBean, which she wrote and performed was directed by Seamus O’Rourke and produced by Hawk’s Well Theatre. The show premiered there and she later toured nationally.

Niamh has collaborated with various notable theatre companies and productions including NOMAD/Livin Dred in Tarry Flynn and Far-Off Hills, directed by Mikel Murfi. She also teamed up with Veronice Couburn and Draiocht on Fools Macbeth.

An original cast member of John Breen’s ‘Alone it Stands’, Niamh appeared in over 500 performances during a three year tour, which included The West End, The Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Tasmania, and several national tours.

Niamh’s broadcast work includes Obituary Season 2 (RTÉ and Hulu), Seamus Goes Wild and Living With a Fairy (GMarsh TV and RTÉ) and Calvary (John Martin McDonagh).

On receiving the Residency, Niamh McGrath commented; ‘I am thrilled and honoured to be appointed Artist in Residence with the Hawk’s Well Threatre for 2025. I’m so grateful for this incredible opportunity to collaborate with the amazing team at the theatre and work with many inspiring Sligonians. This residency will allow me to further develop my playwriting and performance work, including the creation of a new play. The Hawk’s Well Theatre holds a special place in my heart, having premiered my one-woman show GomBean. I look forward to a year of creativity, connection, and community in the vibrant cultural hub that is Sligo.’ 

Enniscrone Show Queen

Have you ever dreamed about representing the Enniscrone and Castleconnor area as the Enniscrone Show Queen? What about taking part and possibly becoming the Sligo Rose of Tralee? Entries are now open for participants who wish to take part in this year’s show queen selection. The selection night will take place on Saturday, March 29, in the Diamond Coast Hotel, Enniscrone, and the event is kindly sponsored by the hotel.

The winner will not only receive the gorgeous tiara, Enniscrone Show title and be entered into the Sligo Rose of Tralee selection Sligo Rose Centre but will also win a generous cash prize of €500 on the night. There is no entry fee.

Enniscrone Show committee ask that you seek a sponsor for you to represent on the day and again there is no fee for that sponsor. The sponsor would simply be there to support you and of course kindly assist you in getting ready with regards to hair/makeup for the event. You will in turn support and promote them/their business.

This is a chance to meet some other amazing ladies from the locality and show how proud you are in your area.

Bella Cinderella

The curtain came down on the Jesus and Mary Secondary School production of 'Bella Cinderella' after playing to packed houses for two nights. The musical tale was set in Enniscrone and featured the talent of transition year class under the direction of Miss Tuffy, Miss Loughney and Mr McLoughlin. Audiences certainly enjoyed the show as was evident from the gales of laughter as they watched the antics of the scheming Prunella and her two daughters in their efforts to 'hook' the Squire and Prince!

Blotto

Congratulations to Padraic Scott who was the winner of the €11,400 blotto draw which was held on Sunday, February 2, last. The numbers drawn were 16, 32 and 44. The €25 prizewinners were John Carr, Lucia Keaveney, Mary Kavanagh and Alan McGowan. The jackpot reverted to €3,000 for the draw which was held on Sunday, February 9, in The Pilot Bar.

Irish language classes

If you are a complete beginner or just wish to brush up on your Irish language skills, there will be classes in the Ocean Sands Hotel, Enniscrone, with muinteoir Cillian, starting this evening Tuesday, February 11, from 7-8pm. The cost is €2 per class with thanks to Enniscrone and District Community Council and MSLETB. Everyone is welcome.

Enniscrone Kilglass Community Games

The annual general meeting was held last week and new committee members were welcomed to their team and the existing committee were thanked for staying on board. However they were unable to fill the role of secretary and unfortunately, they cannot proceed without one, despite having a wonderful group of people taking on every other role. If you would like Community Games to happen this year, and you can spare a little time (it's a much simpler role this year due to the new online entry system), let the committee know, or come along the the next meeting on Thursday, February 13, at 8pm in The Ocean Sands Hotel. 

Eoghan Rua ladies lotto

The numbers drawn in the Eoghan Rua Ladies weekly lotto which was held on Monday, February 3, were 6, 30, 35, and 40. The €30 consolation prizewinners were Eanna Moylan, Joe Rolston, Colette McKenna, Emer Reynolds and Michael Lee Munnelly. The jackpot in the latest draw which was held on Monday, February 10, was €18,800.

West Sligo Athletic Club

The West Sligo Athletic Club had a great day at the Sligo Spring Championships in Skreen last week, with fantastic performances from all their athletes. U16 girls joint 1st in the 800, were Laura Leonard and Maisie Kilcullen; U14 Flinn Reynolds 3rd in the 800m; Brendan O’Meara 3rd in U13 600m and U13 long jump; Oscar O’Boyle was 2nd in the U11 600m and Matthew Kilcullen was 1st in the U11 shot putt. The club extend thanks to all the organisers for a great day of athletics.

Sean Nos dancing

Easkey Book Club

Easkey Book Club are celebrating their 1st year anniversary and their next meeting is Tuesday, February 18, at 8pm in the Courthouse. Their book for this month is ‘I Feel Bad About My Neck’ by Nora Ephron. Everyone will receive a warm welcome and a cup of tea.

Some of the reflections on their past year are: ‘I can’t believe we’ve read so many books’, ‘I haven’t read like this since I was a young thing’, ‘I feel very privileged to b e part of this special fun loving group’.

Confirmation

The Sacrament of Confirmation will be held in St James’s Church, Easkey on Sunday, March 2, at 12 noon. A rehearsal will be held in the church on Thursday, February 27th at 11am.

Easkey/St Farbnans Indoor hurling is back on Wednesdays in the old factory from 6 to 6.45pm for U7’s, 6.45 to 7.30pm for the U9’s. Helmets and hurls will be provided for new players.Boys and girls are welcome.

Easkey Cinema Club

Easkey Enhancement Association launched Easkey Cinema Club and they extend thanks to all involved for getting it up and running. If you enjoy watching and chatting about films with friends and neighbours, the Cinema Club is just what you need.

Castleconnor GAA All Stars.

After the success of the programme last autumn Castleconnor GAA Club is delighted that the Castleconnor GAA All Stars is back. Women in Sport leadership course

Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership are running another bespoke national award winning Women in Sport Leadership Course to clubs in County Sligo in March 2025. Commencing on Women in Sport week, this is a fantastic opportunity for women to develop the many skills involved to thrive in leadership positions in sport.

The aim of the programme is to provide training, guidance, and expertise to support women in Sligo to thrive in leadership positions in sport. It will give them the opportunity to learn additional skills, increase their confidence and build networks across sports.

GAA lotto

The numbers drawn in the lotto which was held on Saturday, February 1, were 9, 27, 31 and 40. There was no winner of the jackpot but Albie O’Connor matched 3 numbers and won €500. The winner of the €50 lucky dip prize was Sean Carrabine.

GAA Club membership

Castleconnor GAA membership for 2025 is now due for renewal and is available through the ‘Foireann’ central GAA system at https://www.foireann.ie. All players and coaches must be registered members before they train or play. Anyone who wishes to use the club gym must complete their registration and membership to gain access. This is important for insurance and safety purposes to protect members.

The Player Injury Scheme runs from January 1 to December 31. The club look forward to the season ahead and would love to see new and returning players and members join the club.
