Presidents Prize at Enniscrone Bridge Club

The Enniscrone Bridge Club Presidents Prize presentation was held in the Golf Club recently. Winners of the prizes was Frances Walkin and Gerry Scanlon, 2nd Anne Freeman and Aine Bolger, 3rd Walter and Laura Doherty, 4th Halogue Malone and Agnes Moran.

Enniscrone Walking Club

Join the Enniscrone Walking Club with a new, exciting walk every weekend throughout the month of May on a new mountain. For more information on how to join, visit their website www.enniscronewalkingclub.ie. The following are the remaining scheduled walks for May: May 17, Belderg (moderate) the terrain is coastal mountain and it will take 4-5 hours; May 24, Benchoona (Killary trail option), the level is hard, it is open mountain and will take 4-5 hours; and finally May 31, White Rock, above Lough Easkey, the level is hard, it is open mountain and will take 4-5 hours. Start times and start locations will be announced in weekly emails.

Enniscrone Men’s Shed public garden

Enniscrone Mens Shed recently got a plot of land to create the Enniscrone Mens Shed public garden. In the next few weeks they will getting it sorted to start growing vegetables and flowers. Anyone with an interest in gardening is welcome to come and help out or donate. The men thank the Enniscrone Community Council for giving them this opportunity.

Enniscrone Kilglass GAA roundup

Commiserations to the Intermediate footballers on their 1-11 to 1-8 defeat to St Molaise Gaels recently. There was a break in action last weekend, and the lads attention turbned to the final of the Spring League when they took on Eastern Harps in Ballymote on Friday evening last.

The minors have finished top of Division B1 of the league after their win over Geevagh/St Michaels. After a great tussle, the lads were 6-8 to 3-14 winners in Ballintogher. Details of their fixture in the knockout phase will be confirmed shortly.

The U15s lost out to Tubbercurry/Cloonacool on a scoreline of 3-18 to 4-11. This was a cracking match in which both sides played some superb football. The lads have a home match last night Monday, May 12, against Drumcliffe/Rosses Point.

The U13 team had another good win on the road against St Molaise Gaels. They then played Coolera/Strandhill at home on Tuesday, May 6. The A team had their match against Coolera/Strandhill rescheduled and it took place on Sunday last, May 11, in Quigabar.

The U9s and U11s had a great evening’s action at home to St Farnan’s recently. Well done to all involved.

The club extends its best wishes to Garry Dullaghan, who has been working in Quigabar as part of the scheme for the past couple of years. Garry’s time finished with the club earlier in the Spring. They thanks him for all his efforts in maintaining the grounds during his time in the role.

Kilglass Parish Community Centre

Last year, Kilglass Parish Community Centre were awarded €1.1 million to build a new community hall. Since opening, the demand for small individual offices became evident, and they recognised the need to provide a dedicated space for the children, separate from the digital hub co-working areas.

In response, they reapplied for planning permission to expand the facilities. The updated plans include: a larger community hall, an expanded children’s room; a pool and darts room; a small office space and they will convert the existing party room into small individual offices.

The committee are delighted that planning permission was granted in February, and the Department of Rural and Community Development approved the updated plans, so it’s all systems go.

To celebrate, Kilglass Parish Community Centre hosted a wonderful gathering where community members, young and old, came together to chat and catch up. The children had fun with X-Box games, face painting and they are offering a 15% discount on all parties, including gaming parties, booking during the month of May. Parties can be booked via their website. The next community gathering will be held on the June Bank Holiday weekend, so stay tuned for more updates.

Alzheimer Inclusive Social Club

An Alzheimer Inclusive Social Club will meet on Wednesday, May 21, from 2.30 to 4.30pm in Skreen Dromard Community Centre. Go along and join them for a cuppa. It is free and open to those looking for a calm, supportive environment for relaxed tea and a chat. Contact Erin at 087 3972583. The club is a social gathering where people can access information and support, meet other people as well as to exchange ideas and experiences.

Blotto

The numbers drawn in the Enniscrone combined football clubs blotto draw which was held on Sunday, May 4, were 8, 9, and 20. The €25 prizewinners were Eileen Hallinan, Patricia Freeman, William Healy and Jenny and Sylvie. The jackpot in the latest draw which was held in the Ocean Sands Hotel, on May 11, was €3600.

West Sligo Young at Heart

The club have been busy the last few weeks, cooking and eating the tasty dishes made with Bernie, reducing their electric bills thanks to Luke, sewing with Catherine, moving with Grainne, Hugh and Angela and last week learning how to see the beauty in light and objects and how to use their phone cameras to capture the moment with Iaelia. The club extend thanks to all for enriching their lives, and of course having a cuppa and chat and always a good laugh.

All are welcome to come along on Monday at 11am for Chair Yoga or Pilates; Tuesday at 11am for walking football and other activities such as kurling and activator poles and Wednesdays 10.30am for a different activity or talk each week. Last week they had a visitor from Alzheimer’s Ireland.

The Enniscrone Indoor Market is open every Saturday from 11am to 3pm. Come along and meet some of the fabulous traders eg. EWAC Enniscrone, Brown Penny, Suantrai na Coille, Seoda na Ce and more. Enjoy a coffee and some home baking. There will be wonderful gifts, decorations, paintings, handmade blankets, clothing, jewellery, local crafts, treats, fresh fruit and vegetables and much more. Little Puckers

Little Puckers, which is a class for boys and girls aged between 1.5 to 5 years with a unique Gaelic Games theme commenced in Easkey Sports Hall for 1.5 to 3.5 years on Saturdays from 10 to 10.40am and for 3.5 to 5.5 years from 10.45 to 11.30am. Activities will include chase games, movement games, introduction to Gaelic games, co-operation games and lots of fun. Sean Nos dancing

Indoor hurling

Easkey/St Farnans Indoor hurling takes place on Wednesdays in the old factory from 6 to 6.45pm for U7’s, 6.45 to 7.30pm for the U9’s. Helmets and hurls will be provided for new players. Boys and girls are welcome.

Bingo takes place every Tuesday at 8pm with doors opening at 7pm. There is always free tea and coffee on offer. All are welcome to come along and support, and be in with a chance to win. All money raised goes to Western Gaels.

A new five week programme Stronger for Longer commenced in Castleconnor Community Centre on Thursdays from 10 to 11am. It entails strength and power training for over 50s and for further information contact Bernie Finlay 087 6164788.

GAA lotto

The numbers drawn in the Castleconnor GAA lotto which was held on May 3, were 12, 16, 20 and 37. There was no jackpot winner and the match 3 winner was PJ Barrins. The lucky dip winner of €50 was Joe Corcoran. The jackpot in the latest draw held on May 10, was €11,800.
