Knockmore

The sad passing of a beloved parishioner

News of the passing of Ronan James, Corroy, was met with great sadness by his local community. Ronan passed away on August 1, last in Mayo University Hospital surrounded by his beloved family following an illness. His remains reposed at McGowan Funeral Home on the Saturday evening prior to his removal to Christ the King Church, Knockmore, from his residence, on Sunday morning for his 11am Requiem Mass. Ronan was pre-deceased by his parents, brothers Vincie and Martin, sisters Kathleen and Maura.

In extending a warm welcome to all present and especially to those travelling a long distance, the large numbers present heard chief celebrant Fr Sean Killeen pay many tributes to his brother-in-law Ronan. He spoke of his many great qualities, his great love for his family, his dedication to the Mass and the Sacraments and of his lifelong membership of the Pioneer Association. He spoke of the great sadness felt on the passing of his beloved wife Sheila in her fifties and the many other crosses he had to bear down the years. He spoke of the love and care returned to him by his beloved family, especially in more recent years, a family that remained loyal to the very end.

In the eulogy at the end of Mass, his daughter Jean, on behalf of the family recalled many beautiful memories of her dad and growing up in Corroy and of the example shown them by him and their mother down the years.

Ronan was born on March 27, to parents the late Martin and Kate James (nee Brogan), and was a member of a family of five. Working as a driver for the nearby Corroy Glucose Factory, his work took him to many parts of the country. He married the love of his life Sheila Killeen, from nearby Cloghans and reared a family of seven. Ronan also took over the running of the family farm and enjoyed so much tending to his crops and caring for his animals.

Ronan will be remembered always as a kind and caring person who had a smile always for all he met, he was dearly loved by his neighbours and friends and will be missed so very much in his neighbourhood of Corroy.

We take this opportunity to extend his beloved family our deepest sympathy at this time, to his daughters Mary, Jean and Ann, sons Sean, Finbarr, Michael and Kenneth, to his beloved 17 grandchildren, to his many nephews and nieces, cousins, neighbours and many friends.

May Ronan now rest in peace.
