Local Notes: Easkey Enhancement Association take part in Big Beach Clean 2026
Over 210 volunteers in Sligo joined a nationwide rally to remove an estimated over 1.2 tonnes of litter during the Big Beach Clean 2026. Four dedicated volunteers from Easkey Enhancement Association braved the weather and picked up enough litter to fill five bags at Easkey Castle. The area was also cleaned earlier by local swimmers from the group after their morning swim.
Well done to the U8 boys from Enniscrone Kilglass GAA club who participated in the PJ Gilmartin Memorial Blitz which was held in Ardnaree on Sunday morning, September 20 last. The lads acquitted themselves brilliantly amongst some very tough competition from Ardnaree, Knockmore, and Belmullet.
The club thank Ardnaree Sarsfields GAA Club for hosting and for the excellent organization and hospitality shown to everybody in attendance.
The Tireragh Community Support Group are having their annual Halloween Scary Woods Walk on Saturday, October 31, from 12 noon to 3pm in Kilglass House, F26 H685. The entry fee is €2 per head. Please note that all U18s must be accompanied by an adult at all times in the woods. They look forward to scaring you there. The woods will remain open from 3 to 4pm for those who don’t want a scare.
Tomas Kenny, the Post Primary Diocesan advisor, visited Jesus and Mary Secondary School, Enniscrone, to speak to the TY students about the John Paul 11 Awards. Tomas gave students a great insight into the award, explaining how it encourages young people to become more involved in their parish, school and local community through volunteering, service and active participation, and the school are looking forward to seeing them get started on their journey.
The numbers drawn in the Enniscrone combined football clubs blotto draw which was held on Sunday, September 20, were 5, 41 and 43. There was no jackpot winner and the €25 prizewinners were Chloe Ring, Joe Quinn, Brian Duffy and Michael Edward Hannon. The jackpot in the latest draw held in the Pilot Bar, on Sunday, September 27, was €5800.
The Natalie’s Wishes free Santa Experience and Christmas Fair in memory of the beautiful Natlie, who loved children, will be held at Kilglass House on Saturday, December 6, from 10.30am to 4pm. There will be lots of Christmas stalls, activities for children, a raffle with great prizes, and lots of festive fun for all the family.
All proceeds from the raffle and fundraising activities on the day will be donated to homeless charities, helping those who need a little extra this Christmas. The Kilglass Enniscrone Utd FC Christmas pop up show is now open and closes on Sunday, October 11. People are encouraged to order early to avoid missing the Christmas delivery window.
The 2026 O’Dubhda Challenge is almost here, and online registration closes soon. Pick your distance 10k, half marathon or 20 miler (32k). Kilglass Enniscrone Utd FC are looking for volunteers to help out in the club shop during a match, where you can cheer on the kids, have a chat, and stay warm and dry, while you serve hot drinks, welcome families, sell snacks and treats and bring match day smiles. There is no experience needed and full support will be provided.

The Kilglass Enniscrone Utd FC U12 boys travelled to Riverstown Arena to play Arrow Harps FC in the SLY champions group. The scoreline was a bit harsh on the seasiders but all credit to the AHFC goalkeeper who had a wordlie and if 50% of the lads shots had been successful they would realistically have come away with a point and a 5-5 draw. Being 3-0 down at half time didn’t stop the KEUFC lads making plenty of chances. They lost the first half 3-0 and drew the second half 2-2. The goals scored by Tom Deehan, assist by Iarla Fallon and Sam Boland, with assist by Patrick McSharry, were well deserved. Their latest fixture was a challenging one against St John’s at Michael McGowan Park.
Start sorting out your old electrical items and get them ready for delivery to the WEEE Electrical Recycling Day on October 3, at Enniscrone Pier car park. They will take anything that operates via a plug or batteries.

The Activator Pole Walking has returned on Mondays for an 8 week programme and continues to October 20 from 11am to 12 midday, at the West Sligo Family Resource Centre, Enniscrone. The weekly walks for all returned this month, on Wednesdays, from 11.30am meeting at the West Sligo Family Resource Centre. Well done to the U15 Easkey St Farnan’s hurlers who won the Sligo GAA Davis’s Restaurant Plate final on Sunday, September 20 last against Calry St Joseph’s Hurling Club. The lads pulled well ahead, only for Calry to fight back to make it an entertaining tight game. Well done to both teams on a good game of hurling.
The club extend thanks to Adam and Kieran for their commitment to the team all year, to Joe, Rory, Andrew, Damien, and Emmit for helping with the U13s and U15s when called upon.
Both teams enjoyed pizza afterwards, thanks to funds raised during the recent Duck Race, and thanks to Ita for the tasty treats.

There was no jackpot winner and the consolation prizes went to Martin Carroll, Pat Sweeney, Anna Rolston, Diane Egan, and Karen O’Brie and Darren Carrol. The jackpot in the latest draw which was held on Sunday, September 27, was €6700.
It’s that time of year again, with the much loved Easkey Scarecrow Festival back from October 18 to 30, bringing colour, creativity, and plenty of fun to the beautiful coastal village.
Once again, Easkey’s streets, gardens, and public spaces will be transformed by an imaginative collection of scarecrows created by people of all ages. Whether you are a seasoned scarecrow maker or taking part for the very first time, the committee would love to see what you can create.
This year there are four competition categories; individual, family, community group and school. With cash prizes on offer, everyone is encouraged to get involved and help make this year’s festival bigger and better than ever.
The festival is a wonderful celebration of local talent, community spirit, and a little bit of countryside magic. So gather your friends, family, classmates, or neighbours and start planning your scarecrow masterpiece.
All entries must be completed and in place by Tuesday, October 14; winners will be announced on Friday, October 24 and the festival trail is open from October 18 to 30.
The mixed gender walking football will commence on Friday, October 2, from 7-8pm in Dromore West Community Centre. This is a fun, low-intensity way to exercise, have a bit of fun and meet new people. There is no need to be a football expert – just come along and enjoy yourself. Everyone is welcome.

Some of the Castleconnor CFR members attended the Respond 2026 – The National First Responder Conference which was held in Mullingar last week. It was a fantastic opportunity to meet and connect with fellow CFR groups from across Ireland, take part in training demonstrations, learn from others, and catch up with their colleagues from the National Ambulance Service.
There is always something new to learn, and events like this are a great opportunity to bring new ideas and knowledge back to the local group and community.
The numbers drawn in the Castleconnor GAA lotto which was held on September 19 last were 5, 10, 35 and 36. There was no jackpot and no match 3 winner. The lucky dip winner of €50 was William Boland. The jackot in the latest draw which was held on Saturday, September 26, was €11,500.
As the Castleconnor GAA underage and Go Games season comes to a close, the club extend thanks to Jessica Neary, who was the Coaching Development Officer earlier in the year. Jessica was a fantastic addition to the club, working with the children in Corballa and Stokane National Schools, promoting Gaelic football and helping the younger players develop their skills through fun and engaging activities. Jessica also helped out with training and at matches, from U5s right through to U13s. She also went along to the clubs fun evening on Thursday last and got involved. Castleconnor GAA Club wish Jessica the very best of luck in her next chapter as she starts her Masters in Occupational Therapy in January 2027.
