U14E win shield final

The opening half of this county U14 E Shield final was a very closely contested game. Crossmolina had more possession early on but shot a number of wides as did Kilmovee Shamrocks before Hadley Jack Burns and Cian Coggins opened the scoring. Minutes later Cian Coggins raised a green flag for the North Mayo boys which Nathan Duffy and Alfie Carroll replied to with points each. Luke Loftus pointed a free and Alfie Carroll scored a goal for the East Mayo side in the 25th minute. Alex Kenny quickly cancelled this score out coming up from goal and blasted the ball to the net. Cian Coggins tacked on a point to leave the half time score 2-3 to 1-3.

Jonathan Leonard scored a goal in the 42nd minute and Declan Mulligan replied for Shamrocks with a point but this was as good as it got for his side as Crossmolina tacked on nine points from Luke Loftus, Conor Mulligan, Cian Coggins two each and one each from Cillian Burke, Liam Lavelle and Morgan McAndrew. Nathan Duffy closed the scoring with a point for Kilmovee to leave The Deel-Dider’s convincing winners in the end. The final score was Crossmolina 3-12, Kilmovee Shamrocks 1-5.

Ardagh

County Junior Championship

Ardagh senior footballers notched up their second successive win in the Mayo Junior Football Championship with a fine win over last year's county junior A finalists Shrule/Glencorrib last week. With seven points to spare at the final whistle (1-13 to 0-9) Ardagh proved they can hit the target when necessary but team manager Paul Moran, and his backroom team know only too well that improved performances are essential if they are to overcome the much sterner tests which lie ahead in the penultimate stages of the competition. By the time this column is published Ardagh will have played Ballycroy in round 4 of the competition.

Winners

There was no outright winner of Ardagh GAA Club's August monthly lotto draw held last week. The numbers drawn were 23, 22, 26 and13. The lucky €50 winners were Karen Egan and Vivienne Caden. The lotto is a vital means of raising necessary finance for the club and officials express their sincere gratitude to everyone who continues to support the fundraiser.
