Chris Kimmerling fondly remembered
The late Chris Kimmerling who has died was fondly remembered during his 11am Requiem Mass celebrated on Friday last, November 3. Symbols from his life were brought to the altar during the Mass. Chief celebrant was Fr Donal Dorr (brother-in-law of Chris) assisted by Fr Padraig Costello, Fr Michael Flynn and Fr Brendan Hoban. During the homily many tributes were paid to Chris. He was remembered as a person of great faith, devoted to his church where he participated regularly in its various liturgies. He had a great love for his wife Ben and family and their welfare were always is top priority. As a teacher he was so highly thought of and his kind and gentle manner, his empathy and teaching skills endeared him to both parents and pupils alike. He was remembered also for his many talents and his love for outdoor life. A life that inspired his talent for painting, gardening and with a great appreciation of the beauty of the countryside and was a great supporter to the then local Tidy Area.
In the eulogy at the end of Mass family members paid their own personal tributes to Chris together with his wife Ben who recalled many, many special memories of him. He was laid to rest afterwards in Ballinahaglish cemetery.
Chris was born in Walton on Thames, Surrey, to parents the late John and Eileen Kimmerling. He grew up in a privileged life, attending boarding school at an early age. But Chris was to choose a simpler lifestyle. He met the love of his life Ben Dorr, a Foxford native and after much to and fro they married and came to live in Tavanaghmore. Chris returned to the UK to train as a teacher before taking up a teaching position with St Anthonys School in Castlebar.
We hope that these special memories will be of some consolation to his beloved family at this time and we take this opportunity to extend all of them our deepest sympathy – to his beloved wife Ben, his devoted daughters Eva Marie and Louise, his beloved grandchildren Zoe, Sam, Emilie, Sophie and Isobel, to his brother Robin, sons-in-law Alan and Tony, in-laws and many friends. May he now rest in peace.
