Local Notes: Cooneal Community Group annual trip to Cavan.
The Cooneal Community Group travelled to Cavan recently for their annual trip. They had a very enjoyable few days visiting the Crafts of Ireland in Virginia, the Cavan County Museum and a tour of Finner Camp in Ballyshannon.
Congratulations to Thomas Langan, son of Kevin and Loretta Langan, Currabaggan and Mary Dolan, daughter of Breege and Seamus Dolan, Ballina, who were married in a beautiful ceremony in Christ the King Church, Knockmore, on Saturday last, August 29. Maid of Honor was Sarah Strong, and bridesmaids were Lisa McDonnell, Shauna Feeney and Catherine Padden. Bestman was James Langan and groomsmen were Brian Timlin, Brian Hughes and James Reape. Flower girls were Alica Dolan and Lily Padden, and pageboys were Charlie Dolan and Cilian Dolan.
The ceremony was performed by Fr Micheal Reilly and was attended by a large number of family, relatives, neighbours and friends. The music and singing for the ceremony was provided by Tony Kelly and Laura Nash and the reception was held afterwards in the Great National Hotel. Ballina. Mary's late grandmother was formerly Mary Ginty nee McAndrew, late of of Runagry, Knockmore.
Both Mary and Thomas are wished every happiness and blessings for their future years together.
The Tractor Vintage and Vehicle Run event will be an exciting occasion for all the family with vintage vehicles of all kinds including cars, trucks, motor cycles etc taking part on Sunday, September 13. There will also be a children's pedal tractor run before the main event and children are asked to bring along their pedal go-carts and any other pedal driven machines. There will be a goodie bag for all participants afterwards.
Registration for the Tractor and Vintage Run takes place from 11am in the GAA Clubrooms. The fee per motorised vehicle is €20 and an auction will take place in the community hall at 12.15pm. All proceeds of the day are in aid of parish funds. Saleable items in good condition would be welcome from parishioners for the auction. Contact Patrick Duffy on 086 6813743 for further details.
Flourish are holding a free crafting course in Knockmore/Rathduff Centre. The course begins on Wednesday, September 23 and continues on September 30 and October 30. Each class is for 2 hours duration starting at 11am until 1pm. Throughout the course you will be immersed in creating seasonal pieces for your home. To book contact the Centre on 094 9258016. Places are limited so you should be prepared to complete the course if you book a place.
The numbers drawn last week were 1, 5, 7 14, and there was no jackpot winner. €25 winner was Bernadette Coleman.
The numbers drawn on August 25, were 26 , 27, 33 and 34. There was no jackpot winner. The jackpot in the latest draw held on September 1, was €18,450. Thank you for your continued support.

Only 10 days left until the Cèide Coast Atlantic Run, Half Marathon and 10k, Ireland's most scenic race, which will take place on Saturday, September 19, in Ballycastle. The half marathon starts at 12 noon and the 10k starts at 12.20pm. Both races start at the Cèide Fields Visitor Centre and finish at Ballycastle Community Hall. The GAA weekly 25 card game has resumed on Tuesday nights at 9pm in Ballycastle GAA Clubhouse.

Ardagh Social Services are hosting a very significant event in Ardagh Community Centre tomorrow week, Wednesday, September 16. The morning commences at 11am with talks focusing on "Staying independent as we age," with expert advice from an occupational therapist and physiotherapist. There was no outright winner of Ardagh GAA Club's monthly lotto draw held last week. Congratulations to Mary and Sean McAndrew (€50 winners) and Christina Gallagher (€50 online winner). The numbers drawn were 7,14,15, and 20. The club wishes to thank everyone who has purchased annual tickets and all those who play the monthly lotto draw online. The next monthly lotto draw will take place on Sunday, September 30.
The Parish of Backs Tractor, Vintage and Vehicle annual run, takes place this coming Sunday, September 13, in neighbouring parish Knockmore. Registration is at 11am and the fee for each motorised vehicle is €20. An auction will be held at 12.15pm and all proceeds go towards parish funds. The highly enjoyable annual event is a much loved occasion throughout the rural community.
This coming Saturday, September 12, Western Alzheimers will hold its annual Peak of the Reek Community Climb. Walk for a loved one or just enjoy a community day out. Pupils, teachers and staff have now returned to the classrooms of the parish national schools in Ardagh and Knockanillo after their summer holidays. Each and everyone is wished every success as they prepare for another school year of learning, friendship and fun in their academic and sporting endeavours.

The Summer League B final between Moygownagh and Ballycastle will be held on Wednesday, September 9, in Crossmoliona at 7pm.
Moygownagh ICA Guid hosted a table quiz in Moygownagh Community Centre on August 28 with proceeds going to Mayo Roscommon Hospice and Moygownagh ICA. There were 11 table of participants, and the guild thank all who attended from the community, and from the Bonniconlon Guild. Quizmaster Diarmaid Blehein provided 10 rounds of questions ranging from general knowledge, agricultural, Co. Mayo and a round where all answers began with the letter c. A big thank you to Diarmaid, the catering committee, all members who helped in preparation for and on the night, to all the local individuals and businesses who provided raffle prizes.
