The late Sean Derrig

The death occurred last week of Sean Derrig, Rathduff, Balla. Sean, who passed away peacefully at his home, was pre-deceased by his parents Theady and Margaret and his brother Tommy. He is deeply regretted by his family, neighbours and friends to whom sincere condolences are tendered. His remains reposed at Balla Funeral Home on Tuesday evening, October 22, from 5pm with removal of his remains taking place at 7pm to St Cronan's Church, Balla. Sean’s Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday at 12 noon with burial ceremonies taking place afterwards in the local cemetery.

Manulla FC official opening

Congrats to Manulla FC on the opening of their new Inclusive Hub, which includes a sensory garden, a state of the art Cubbie, a changing facility, an office space for the Clubs Mayo Autism Camp colleagues, and a comfortable area to unwind. It was indeed outstanding to have so many local and national representatives present and so many of the MAC families and friends too.

Manulla FC are the first sporting club in Ireland to have a facility of this sort and it was fantastic to get to celebrate the opening with so many friends, supporters and volunteers, who gave up countless hours, days and weeks to help see this project over the line.

Immense hard work, resilience, team work, passion and dedication by many people have helped the club to bring this prestigious project to fruition. Congratulations to all on a magnificent achievement.

Amber on Mayo U17 team

Congratulations to Manulla FC player, Amber Glavey, who has signed with Mayo FC U17s team. Amber is a talented player, who has progressed right through Manulla FC academies and underage structures and continues to progress and flourish. All at the club are delighted that Amber’s dedication to the sport and her talents has been duly noted. She is wished the very best of luck with Mayo.

Manulla FC lotto

Manulla FC lotto draw was held on last Sunday week, October 20, for a massive jackpot of €16,600. The numbers drawn were 1, 4, 12 and 24. There was no jackpot winner. The consolation prizewinners were Andrew Shally, Grattan, online, Karen Brennan, Manulla, online and Mary Jo McDonnell, Curryeallaun, online. On October 28, the jackpot stood at €16,700. Balla GAA notes

The club jackpot on Thursday, October 17, stood at €8,600 in Flukies. The numbers drawn were 4, 7, 10 and 30. There was no winner of the jackpot. The €30 consolation winners were Alan Kiernan (online), Kenneth Moran (standing order) and Philip Gormley (cash sale). The latest draw was held on Thursday, October 24, in The Railway Tavern when the jackpot was €8,700.Thanks to all those who support Balla GAA lotto.

Balla Baptisms

The Christian Community in the Parish have welcomed Leo John Walsh, Ballinafad, Belcarra; Conor Martin Bonner, Lisnolan, Manulla and Oisin Andrew Staunton, Carrowkeel, Manulla who were baptised recently in St Cronan’s Church, Balla. Congratulations to their parents and families.

Christmas Market

Balla Christmas Market with Santa, Arts and Crafts, Face Painting, Tuck Shop, Kids/Adult Tractor Run and Fire Works Show will take place on December 7. More details to follow.

Balla Community Centre have the following classes coming on stream: Sewing 10am every Monday, Women's Healing Group, 7pm every Monday, Tai Chi (free) provided by SWMDC, Art for Children every Monday at 4pm, Tuesday - Moms and Me, 10am, Move It Or Lose It is on Tuesday at 10am in Balla Community Centre with Claire. Relics of St Martin

Relics of St Martin De Porres will be available for veneration in St Cronan's Balla on Sunday, November 3, from 5.30 to 7pm. The veneration is organised by the local Council of The Knights of Columbanus and will begin at 5.30pm with a brief introductory talk.

Bereaved

Sincere sympathy is accorded to Dympna Walsh, Kiltimagh Rd, on the death of her brother Gerry McNamara, R.I.P, Mayo Abbey. May he rest in peace.

Balla Parents and Toddlers

Parents, toddlers and guardians can meet up for coffee and chat every Thursday from 10.30am until 12 noon in Balla Community Centre. All are welcome.

Balla AGM

Balla Community Resource Development Team will hold their annual general meeting on November 20, at 8pm in the Balla Community Centre.

Balla Active Age

Balla Active Age Group will meet every Friday at 3pm in the community centre. New members will be made most welcome.

Bingo Bus route

A great new service to enhance Balla Bingo has recently commenced. The Bingo bus service has pick-ups at Brickens, Claremorris, Hollymount, Ballyglass and Mayo Abbey destined to be in Balla for Sunday Bingo at 7.40pm. Call 087 1850860 or 094 93 65846 to reserve your seat.

Balla Bingo

Balla Bingo takes place on Sundays at Balla Community Centre or online, 8pm. It usually features a generous €12,000 prize fund. 50/50 winners in house and online, free book give away on the night. Don't forget to buy your books before 12 noon on Sundays.

Local 25 Card Games

Balla Centre hosts a 25 card drive every Saturday night in Balla Community Centre. Call the centre at 094 9365843 for more information. Manulla 25 card game takes place at 9pm in the local Centre on Sunday nights. New players are always welcome.

Santa will visit

On Sunday, December 15, Santa Clause will make a return visit to the Santa’s Grotto at the Clogher Heritage Complex. This will be a very special day for all the little people of Clogher and the surrounding areas so note the date and watch this space and social media for further details in the coming weeks.

Cemetery Prayers

There will be rosary and prayers for the Holy Souls in Drum Graveyard on Sunday, November 3, at 3pm and everyone will be welcome.

Errew Community Centre concert

Errew Community Committee has extended thanks to James Kilbane Music for supporting Errew’s newly restored community centre. There are two shows scheduled on Sunday, November 17. The 6pm show is now fully booked but James has kindly offered to perform for an afternoon performance at 2pm as well. There are limited tickets available for the 2pm show.
