The Interschool Student Council meeting gives student council members from all the secondary schools in Sligo an opportunity to meet up and share ideas on how their student council works within their school. Katie and Anna thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Kilglass Hub Table Quiz

Kilglass Parish Community Centre are hosting their first ever Kilglass Hub Table Quiz, hosted by Billy Varley on the Sunday of the May Bank Holiday weekend. Last year the community came together in an incredible way and raised €99,000 through their sponsorship drive. Because of that support, they were able to contribute €50,000 (their match funding requirement) towards Phase 1 of the hub development. Now, there is a €65,000 payment to Sligo County Council for their match funding requirement for Phase 2. This will be used to help build Phase 2. This is a huge milestone and something the whole community should be proud of.

The hub is doing really well, but the committee need to rebuild the fundraising buffer in order to continue developing the space and supporting activities in the community. So this quiz night is about getting people together for a good night out while helping the hub continue to grow. Get your team together, expect tough questions from Billy with plenty of laughs along the way.

Blotto

The jackpot in the latest draw held on Sunday, April 5, in the Pilot Bar was €12,800.

It was a fantastic evening filled with laughter, great company and some truly impressive (and occasionally very creative) quiz answers. Congratulations to the winners.

A special word of thanks was extended to the Diamond Coast Hotel for their help and assistance, to everyone who helped organise the event, to the generous sponsors for their support on the night, and a special thank you to quizmaster extraordinaire Billy Varley, for keeping everyone entertained throughout, but most importantly, thank you to everyone who supported the school and helped make the night such a fun and memorable community event.

Easkey.

Community Playground

Things are starting to move forward with the Easkey Community Playground. Last week Easkey Enhancement Association signed the contract with the Department of Rural and Community Development for the Town and Village Renewal Scheme funding. The next steps will be appointing an engineer and putting the project out to tender.

In the meantime, they have a very important job that they need help with. They need all the young people of the Easkey parish to visit or think about a playground that they have been to and give some really important feedback such as… what did you like abput the playground?, What did you not like about the playground?, what would you like to see included in Easkey Community Playground?

The committee really want to hear from mums, dads, guardians, family members or any potential playground users also, with photos or drawings or anything at all that will help them make this the best playground in Sligo. For details you can email easkeyenhance@gmail.com or send photos to 086 8178862.
