The Class of 2026 from Jesus and Mary Secondary School, Enniscrone, celebrated their graduation ceremony with a Mass last week.

The late Michael (Micky) Casey

The death took place of Michael (Micky) Casey, Main Street, Enniscrone, on May 24, peacefully at the Mayo Hospice, with his loving wife at his side. Micky is predeceased by his parents Padraic and Shiela and his brother Johnny.

He was the beloved husband of Ania and dear brother of Maria, Dorothy, Brian and Antoinette. Micky will be sadly missed by his loving wife, siblings and friends.

Micky reposed at McGowan’s Funeral Home, Ballina, on Tuesday evening, May 26 from 5 to 6.30pm and his funeral arrived for Requiem Mass on Wednesday morning at 11am to the Church of Our Lady Assumed into Heaven, Enniscrone, followed by a private cremation service. May he rest in peace.

Claudine Thevenet Award

All at Jesus and Mary Secondary School were delighted when the Claudine Thevenet Award was presented to their wonderful music teacher Ms Moore. The Claudine Thevenet Award is presented to a member of the school community who has stood out through the respect, kindness and dignity they show in all of their interactions with others. Ms Moore is truly deserving of this honour. Over the years, Ms Moore has given so much to the school community through her dedication, creativity and generosity of spirit. From music for school liturgies and special events, to concerts, musicals, talent shows and choir performances, her contribution to school life has been immense.

Students have also enjoyed the warmth and welcome of her chess club and weekly board games in her classroom, creating spaces of friendship and inclusion for all. Her beautiful floral displays around the school on special occasions, together with her care for the environment, reflect the thoughtfulness and care she brings to everything she does. ‘Thank you Ms Moore for all that you do for our school community. Congratulations on this very well-deserved award’, said a spokesperson for the school.

The numbers drawn in the Ennicrone combined football clubs on Sunday, May 24, was 7, 37 and 41. There was no jackpot winner and the €25 prizewinners were Leigha Cleary, Louise Kenny, Catherina Kenny, and Caroline and John Conway. The jackpot in the latest draw which was held on Sunday, May 31, was €14,400.

Girls Golf Enniscrone returning

Girls Golf Enniscrone is returning this summer for its second season. Fournded in 2025 by LPGA Class A Golf Teaching Professional Sarah Helly Rausenberger, Girls Golf Enniscrone was created with a passion for introducing more girls tothe beautiful game of golf. As a mother of two little girls, Sarah is especially passionate about creating opportunities for young girls to learn, grow and thrive through golf.

The programme designed for girls aged 7-17, focuses on beginner to intermediate golf skills, confidence building, friendship, and fun in a supportive environment. Girls Golf Enniscrone is proudly one of only three LPGA Girls Golf Programs in Ireland.

Following a successful first season, the program was awarded a €2000 LPGA grant to help grow participation and expand opportunities for girls in the region.

The Black Pig Festival

The Enniscrone Events and Black Pig Festival committee are delighted to be bringing a fun filled programme again this year, from July 23 to 27. The programme which will be announced shortly will have music, art, comedy, theatre, fun fair and lots more.

Fun fitness classes

Fun Fitness classes with Carmel with 30 minutes of dance cardio and 30 minutes of seated chair exercises and optional weights, takes place every Friday morning in the West Sligo Family Resource Centre from 11am to 12 noon. For further details email events@westsligofrc.ie or call 096 37444.

Go along and join in the West Sligo Family Resource Centre activator pole walking every Tuesday from 11am to 12 midday. The programme which commenced on May19 will continue until July 7. Bright Sparks Summer Camp

Bright Sparks Summer Camp is a week of creative fun including arts and crafts, games, drama and more in a relaxed, friendly environment. The camp takes place at The Old Church, Enniscrone from July 13-17, 10am to 2pm daily. The camp is suitable for children in junior infants to 4th class. Bingo

Bingo is held in the Old Church, Enniscrone every Tuesday evening at 8pm with all proceeds going to Western Gaels FC. There are cash prizes, raffle, free teas, coffees and treats. Go along for what promises to be a great night.

Market Day in the Old Church

Market Day in the Old Church, Enniscrone continues every Saturday morning from 11am to 3pm. There is a large range of items for sale including knitwear, jewellery, arts and crafts, baked goods etc. You can also sit down for tea, scones and treats. Your support for this local community venture is much appreciated.

All-Ireland Rosary Rally

The All Ireland Rosary Rally in Knock Shrine will take place on June 6 with the programme of events commencing at 9am.

The annual Mass in St Patrick’s Cemetery, Kilglass, will be held on Sunday, August 2, at 6pm. Mass in Roslea Cemetery will take place on Friday, July 31, at 7pm and Churchill annual cemetery Mass will take place on Sunday, August 2, at 12 noon.

Walter Bournes celebrates his 100th birthday

The oldest parishioner of St Anne’s Church, Easkey, Walter Bournes, Killenduff turned 100 last week and he spent a lovely Sunday afternoon celebrating the milestone with family, friends and good neighbours.

Easkey GAA and Eoghan Rua Ladies lotto

Congratulations to Joe Corcoran who was the winner of the €12,500 lotto jackpot which was held on Sunday, May 24. The numbers drawn were 4, 12, 26 and 35. The latest draw was held on Sunday night, May 31.

Owenbeg NS visits Belleek Woods

On Monday, May 24 last the children from Owenbeg NS took part in a nature survey in Belleek Woods, exploring the woods and identifying a wide range of mini beasts, trees, flowers and birds. They showed fantastic curiosity and observation skills throughout. One of the highlights was listening carefully to birdsobng and trying to identify the different birds by their calls, as well as identifying a wide range of wild flowers and trees using observation keys. A wonderful day of outdoor learning was had by all in the sunshine.

Easkey Street Festival

Easkey Street Feast is taking place on Sunday, June 7, at the Court House, Easkey from 3pm. Bring and dish to share. There will be live music and art on the day.

Seaweed Foraging Walk

A Seaweed Foraging Walk and Talk by Sue Mackill of Seaweed Gathers Ballycastle, organised by the Sea and Coast Group and supported by Reach funding MSLETB, will take place on Saturday, June 13, from 11am to 2pm. Explore the secrets of the shore with a walk and foraging at Cuan Gearr followed by tea, talk and questions and answers at Cuan Gearr House (home of Nigel and Kathleen James), by Easkey Cove. GAA lotto

The numbers drawn in the Castleconnor GAA lotto which was held on Saturday, May 23 were 1, 3, 29 and 31. There was no jackpot winner. Rose Kelly was the match 3 winner and the lucky dip winner of €50 was Breege Carrabine. The jackpot in the draw which was held on May 30, was €17,300.

U11s have been busy

Well done to Castleconnor GAA U11’s who have been busy training and playing some great Go Games matches over the last couple of weeks. They have welcomed lots of clubs, including Eastern Harps, Tubbercurry/Cloonacool, Bonniconlon and Enniscrone/Kilglass. It has been great to see all the children getting involved, showing great teamwork and skills, and getting plenty of time on the pitch. The club thank as always the coaches and the parents and families for their continued support.

Castleconnor GAA All-Stars

The Castleconnor GAA All-Stars are held on Saturday mornings from 10.45am to 11.30am in Castleconnor Community Centre. There are fun games for children aged 4-12 years with additional needs and their siblings. Parents must stay and play. To book a place contact Bernie Finlay on 087 6164788.
