Claremorris GAA and LGFA said it was with the deepest sorrow that the club learned of the recent death of Seamus McLoughlin.
Everyone involved in the club extended their deepest sympathies to his wife, Margaret, children James, Dolores, Patrick, Lynn, Imelda, Clement and Brigid, grandchildren and extended family.
Seamus was the next-door neighbour of the GAA pitch for over 50 years and no club ever had a better neighbour. While he was best known for his involvement with the Scouts, Seamus was a regular attendee at games over the years and took great pride in watching his children and grandchildren represent Claremorris.
The club added that his “work ethic was amazing and he could be seen gardening, painting, cleaning or driving about. His garden was never without a flag,..... Claremorris, Mayo, Ireland, Papal and Scout all got their time.”
A minute's silence in memory of Seamus was observed before the County Minor League Semi-Final between Claremorris and The Neale.
Claremorris Scouts also paid tribute to their late friend.
They said: “Seamus and his loving wife Margaret brought scouts to the town of Claremorris over 40 years ago. Together with their family, they ran a very successful troop, bringing children of the local community scouting all over the world.
“They challenged children to be their best selves, guided them into pushing boundaries, and taught them values and life skills that would see them through into well-rounded adults in society.
“Seamus did all this with a giggle and a smirk on his face that only he could. The most gentle, loving and fun man. May Seamus' gentle soul rest easy. Until your next scouting journey.”
