Congratulations to Cian Kelly, Newtown, Cloghans, and Rebecca Naylor, Ballina, who were married in a beautiful ceremony in Christ the King Church, Knockmore, on Friday, July 31. Bridesmaids were Ally Doherty, Anna Kelly and Romy Battle and junior bridesmaid was Lily Curley. Groomsmen were Cathal Kelly, Darragh Ferguson and James Hegarty. The ceremony which was attended by a large number of family, relatives and friends was celebrated by Fr Michael Reilly. Music for the ceremony was provided by the Sligo String Quartet. Both Rebecca and Cian are wished every blessing and happiness for their future years together.
Congratulations to Michael and Martina Gardiner, Knockmore, who celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, to Ciaran and Phil Bourke, Toneybane, who celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary and to Pat and Mary Duffy, Rinmore, who celebrated their silver wedding anniversary, all on Sunday, August 2. They are wished every blessing and many more years of happiness together.
The numbers drawn on July 28, were 6, 8, 21 and 32. Weekly and season ticket winners were; Frank Breslin, David Coleman, Diarmuid Breslin, John Breslin, Anthony Carr, and Brendan Browne. Lucky dip winner was Adam Gallagher. The jackpot in the latest draw held on August 10, was €17, 850.
Despite the very wet conditions the annual Ballinahaglish Cemetery Mass went ahead with huge crowds in attendance. Special thanks are extended to the hard working committee for preparing the cemetery, altar shelter etc for the Mass and to all who helped out in so many ways to prepare for the Mass. It was very much appreciated.

The Lacken community is looking forward to its first-ever Heritage Day, which will take place on Tuesday, August 18, from 12 noon to 3pm at the Lacken Sensory Garden, located at the entrance to Lacken Strand beside Lacken Church on the Wild Atlantic Way. The event forms part of National Heritage Week 2026, joining communities across Ireland in celebrating shared history, culture and traditions. The event will celebrate the rich heritage, traditions and talents of the local community with a packed programme of demonstrations, music, crafts and family-friendly activities.
Visitors can enjoy a weaving demonstration by Annie Gambrill, showcasing the journey from sheep to wool, while Myra will demonstrate the traditional art of making boxty. Des will share the fascinating story of the journey from bee to honey jar, and Sharon will demonstrate the traditional craft of willow basket weaving. Music and entertainment will be provided throughout the afternoon. Clara Gardiner, the Mayo Rose, will perform a selection of songs along with talented Lacken girl Abbie Bourke. Mary Munnelly and Marie Ruane will play traditional tunes on the accordion and accompany The Strawboys as they entertain visitors with traditional Irish dancing. Children will have plenty to enjoy with workshops from 1pm to 2pm, including stone painting, spinning on a drop spindle, butter making and clay workshops. Families are also invited to explore the beautiful sensory garden and enjoy time on the new ground-level trampoline and swing, making it a fun day out for visitors of all ages. There will also be displays of historical costumes, vintage tools, woodworking and wool crafts, together with the popular Bee Happy workshop. Visitors can enjoy homemade boxty, crêpes, teas, coffees, sweet treats and D’Briasta Ice Cream throughout the afternoon. Admission is free, and everyone is warmly invited to attend. Organisers hope the community will come together to support Lacken’s 1st Heritage Day, celebrating local history, traditions and community spirit while creating what they hope will become an annual event.

LBK Walking Group continue to meet every Monday and Thursday mornings at 10am. The Monday walks follow local coastal routes of approximately 5-6km offering a relaxed and enjoyable way to stay active while taking in the beauty of the local area. Our Thursday wanderers are a little more adventurous, exploring routes along the Killala Greenway, Kilcummin Head, Moygownagh and Ballycastle and scenic Glens, where they enjoy some of the most breathtaking views North Mayo has to offer.
