Well it is that time of the year again when submissions to this year's edition of The Chronicle for 2026 begin, and what a year it has been. The committee are now accepting articles, poems, tributes, reports and photographs via the email address crossmolinachronicle@gmail.com or to any committee member. The closing date for submissions is October 1, 2026.

The sum of €851 has been raised for the Irish Guide Dogs Association at the Crossmolina Show by Kieran Davidson, with guide dog Caffie and Donnacha and dog Gem. Thank you to all who donated so generously.

There was no winner of Crossmolina Deel-Rovers GAA Club lotto on Saturday, August 1, in Hiney's Bar when the numbers drawn were 12, 20, 22 and 32, Two people matched three numbers; Johnny and Loretta Leonard, Castlehill, and Andy and Annette Gray, Church View, Crossmolina,and they won €75 each. Heartiest congratulations to Conor Carey and his Mayo U16 team on winning the Ted Webb shield final in Ballyhaunis last weekend. Mayo lifted the coveted shield after a scintillating display against neighbours Galway on a scoreline of 2-17 to 1-18 after extra time with Conor netting 2-6 of Mayo's total. A fantastic performance by the young Ardagh player. Well done.
The Missionary Sisters of Saint Peter Claver who spoke at Masses in Ardagh church last week have expressed their sincere gratitude to all who generously donated to the collection taken up in the church over the weekend.
The annual Novena at Knock Shrine will commence this Friday, August 14 and will conclude on August 22 with Masses at 3 and 8pm. Novena prayers will be recited at all Masses in Ardagh church during the nine days novena.

The death occurred last week of Helen Gardiner, Dublin/ Knocknacarra, Galway and Ballycastle, Mayo. She was predeceased by her parents John A. and Bridget, her brother Paddy and sister Margaret Sweeney. Sympathy is extended to her brother Andy, sisters Lily, Loretta Walsh (Galway) and Doris Mannion (Clifden), sister-in-law Breege, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great grandnieces, great grandnephews, relatives and friends. May she rest in peace.
Free entry to the Cèide Fields Visitor Centre on the first Wednesday of each month. For the month of August, 12 to 17 year olds have free admission every day and U12's are free all the time.
