Ballinrobe GAA Club

Everyone at Ballinrobe GAA Club congratulate Andy Moran and the Mayo team on being crowned All-Ireland Senior Football Champions following their magnificent 1-20 to 1-17 victory over Kerry. It was a memorable occasion for Ballinrobe’s Diarmuid Duffy who is part of the Mayo panel. No doubt the famous Sam Maguire Cup will make a visit to Ballinrobe soon.

Emer Biggins Crowned Queen of the Lakes 2026

The Ballinrobe 2026 Festival held its annual Queen of the Lake pageant on Friday, July 24, in the Pavillion at Ballinrobe Racecourse. The venue was packed to near capacity with families, and supporters of the 12 contestants involved. The judges on the night were Shauna Samon (2025 London Rose), Andrew Crowley (Westport Real Estate Professional) and Chloe Moyles (Miss Mayo 2025). The MC on the night was Alan Murphy.

Following the contest and after some deliberations by the judges, it was revealed by Alan Murphy that Emer Biggins was the winner of the Queen of the Lakes 2026, much to the delight of her family and supporters. Emer’s sponsors were Marilyn and Paddy McTigue (Dancing at the Crossroads Cong).

Swing Into Autumn

Mixed Scramble

The results of a mixed scramble competition held at Ballinrobe Golf Club on Thursday, July 23, are as follows: 1st: Martina Cummins, Jim McGovern, Evan Moran, David Slattery; 2nd Angela Murphy, Carmel Maloney, Kieran Mitchell, and Denis Harrington.

Ballinrobe Parish Office

The Parish Office located on the grounds of St. Mary’s Church, will open on Mondays and Thursdays from 9am to 1.30pm. during the month of August.

Mayo Super League

Ballinrobe Town will return to Super League action next weekend when they face a tricky away assignment against Conn Rangers, at Mount Falcon. Visit the Ballinrobe Town Facebook page for confirmation of the date and kick-off time.

Cunga Cycling Club

Cunga Cycling Club have organised a sportive leisure cycle on Sunday, August 9, with registration taking place on the day at the Crossroads Community Centre, Cong, from 8.30am to 9.15am. The route will take place through the picturesque Connemara region, with options for different distances for those taking part. The proceeds are in aid of Cancer Fund for Children, Daisy Lodge. Further details and information will be available nearer the date.

Gardening Club

A gardening club organised by the Tacú Family Resource Centre, meets every Wednesday at 11am in the Ballinrobe Community Garden. New members are welcome. Further details and information are available by contacting 087 4111343.

Pickleball

A weekly social game of pickleball takes place in the Lakeside Sport and Fitness Centre on Tuesday (tonight) from 7 to 9pm. No experience is required, and this game is suitable for all levels of fitness. There will be singles, group and doubles matches taking place on the night, and free paddles will be provided. The cost to take part is €2 for gym members and €5 for non-members. All are welcome.

Craft-mates and knitting groups

The craft-mates group meet every Wednesday from 10am to 1pm in the Tacú Family Resource Centre, with the knitting group also meeting in the same venue every Friday, from 2 to 4pm.

Ukulele lessons

Ukulele lessons for adults take place every Monday night at 7.30pm in the Maple Youth Centre, Bowgate Street. People interested in attending are asked to contact 087 4111343. Pre-booking is advised.

English language classes

English language classes take place in the Tacú Centre every Wednesday at 10.15am to 11.15am and later on Wednesday afternoon from 12.15pm to 1.15pm. Further details and information are available by contacting 095 9542908.

Pendant Alarms

Pendant Alarms for older people are available by contacting the Tacú Family Resource Centre at 094 9542908. The alarms are connected to a contact centre to enable older people of 65 or older, to continue to live securely in their homes with confidence, independence and peace of mind.

Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels are hot meals delivered to individuals at home (either on a temporary or long-term basis). Meals on wheels can make your life easier. This service covers Ballinrobe and the Lake District area. Deliveries take place on Monday’s, Wednesday’s and Thursday’s and consist of soup, main meal and dessert. People can also avail of two meals on Monday’s and Thursday’s. Those interested or who require further details and information, are asked to contact the Tacú Family Resource Centre, Main Street, Ballinrobe, at 094 9542908 or 087 2347438.

Bingo

Bingo (also via-Zoom) takes place in the Parish Centre, Ballinrobe, on Tuesday (tonight) at 8.30pm. For those wishing to play via-Zoom or who require further details and information, you are asked to contact Monica on 087 4111343. Books are also available to purchase in the Tacú Centre.

Mayo Gaels lotto

The numbers drawn for the lotto on Tuesday, July 28, were 1, 5, 14 and 35. There was no jackpot winner, and the €30 winners were Joey Joyce, Tom Ryan, Ger Browne and John Griffin. The jackpot in the draw to be held today, Tuesday, August 4, is €20,200.

Community Services

The social dinner takes place every Tuesday and must be booked in advance. Mayo Abbey Community Centre offer free computer/smartphone support for beginners, hot desk spaces with fibre broadband connections suitable for virtual meetings or interviews. It is the pick up and drop off point for Local Link Bus Service which goes to Castlebar daily Tuesday to Saturday and Claremorris every Thursday. Thursday Morning Walking Group
