Kiltimagh GAA will mark a major milestone on Sunday, September 13, with a day of celebrations to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Gilmartin Park.
The club grounds have been at the heart of Kiltimagh GAA since 1976 and the anniversary will be celebrated with an afternoon of football, family activities, music and entertainment. Events will get underway from 3pm, with a barbecue and refreshments also available during the afternoon.
The sporting programme will include the finals of the Mulhern, Charlton and Flannery Cups, while one of the highlights of the celebrations will come at 5pm when the Sam Maguire Cup arrives at Gilmartin Park accompanied by members of the All-Ireland winning Mayo team. The occasion will give past and present members, supporters, families and friends an opportunity to come together and celebrate five decades of activity at Gilmartin Park and the role the grounds have played in the club and wider community. Kiltimagh GAA is inviting everyone to come along and join in the celebrations on what will be a special day in the club’s history.
Kiltimagh/Knock United are looking for players to join their Men’s Over-35s soccer team, with a new seven-a-side competition getting underway in September. The club is inviting players aged 35 and over who would like to return to competitive football, with matches to be played every Wednesday night in Milebush, Castlebar. The competition will begin on Wednesday, September 23.
The club has described the format as “competitive, old man football” and is keen to hear from anyone interested in getting back on the pitch and enjoying the competitive side of the game. Enda Ruane got the better of Pat Boyle heads-up to claim first prize in Round 12 of the Summer Poker League at Teach O’Hora last week. Michael Sheridan finished third, with Tiernan Burke taking fourth place. The remaining finalists were Alan Sheridan (5th), John Borza (6th), Martin Regan (7th), Tom Maughan (8th) and Andy Quinn (9th).
The previous week's Round 11 saw John Reynolds secure his first win of the Summer League following a heads-up deal with Michael Sheridan. Tiernan Burke finished third and Tom Maughan took fourth, with Kieran McGee (5th), Martin Regan (6th), Michael Higgins (7th), Gerry Groarke (8th) and Majella Gilmartin (9th) completing the final table.
Boyle's runner-up finish in Round 12 sees him remain out in front in the league standings. He leads John Borza, who is on 211 points, with John Reynolds third on 201. The remainder of the top twelve is Michael Higgins (191), Michael Sheridan (190), Enda Ruane (177), Alan Sheridan (170), Paul Walsh (163), Gerry Groarke (160), Majella Gilmartin (156), Keith Lydon (142) and Martin Regan (142).
There will be no game this week, with the league resuming next week for Round 13.
Una Conlon from Bohola was the winner of Kiltimagh GAA Club’s weekly 50/50 draw last week. Una’s winning ticket earned her €765 in the club’s latest jackpot.
Congratulations were extended to Una on her win, while the club expressed its sincere thanks to everyone who continues to support the draw. Tickets are sold online and through local shops and pubs, with the continued support of patrons helping the club to fund its activities.
There was little to separate the leading pairs at the latest 25 Card Drive, with several prizes shared after a closely contested evening.
Mary and Jimmy Doyle and Michael Carney and Michael Costello finished joint first, while second place was shared by Mary McGough and Miko Sheridan and the pairing of Philip Moore and Jack Pidgeon. The Last 10 prize was divided between Virginia and Sharon Hieran and Tom Walsh and Francis McNicholas. Brian McNulty and Tom Durkin picked up the spot prize. Raffle winners on the night were Tom Durkin, Virginia Hieran, Seamus Larkin and Manus Kilcoyne.
Mia Higgins from Bohola was the winner of the Kiltimagh Knock United 50/50 draw last week, taking home a prize of €310.
The club congratulated Mia on her win and thanked everyone who continues to support the weekly draw. Tickets are available online and through local shops and pubs, with proceeds helping to support the club’s ongoing activities.
Kiltimagh Women’s Group will hold its first meeting following the summer break in the Parish Centre on Monday, September 7, at 7pm. Pat Burns will speak on health-related matters at the meeting.
All ladies are welcome to attend and new members are particularly welcome.
Kiltimagh Dads and Lads are approaching their first anniversary after a successful opening year which has seen the group establish a regular programme of football and social activities.
The initiative offers men an opportunity to enjoy football in a relaxed and social setting, with the emphasis as much on participation and enjoyment as the game itself. Weekly activities have included football sessions and challenge games, while members have also taken part in a winter league and a number of social nights.
The group has thanked everyone who helped get the initiative off the ground and those who have continued to participate each week during its first year.
New members are welcome at any time, with organisers saying the period ahead of the winter season is an ideal opportunity to get involved. No previous football experience is necessary and the invitation is open to all dads and lads interested in getting fitter, meeting people and enjoying the social side of the group. Anyone wishing to join can scan the QR code on the group’s poster to access the Kiltimagh Dads & Lads WhatsApp group.
As the group’s motto puts it: 'Come for the Football, Stay for the Craic'.
The death has occurred of Tommy Conlon of Churchpark. Tommy died peacefully at home. He was predeceased by his parents Harry and Kate, and brothers Joe, Frank, Terrance, Alo and Leo.
Tommy will be sadly missed by his wife Marie, sons Thomas and Gearóid, daughter Caitriona, son-in-law Michael, grandsons Nathan, Mikie and Jay, relatives, neighbours and friends.
Tommy’s remains reposed at O’Hora’s Funeral Home, on Saturday, August 22, with removal afterwards to the Church of the Holy Family, Kiltimagh. Funeral Mass was held on Sunday, followed by burial afterwards in Kilkinure Cemetery, Kiltimagh.

The death has occurred of Una King (née Kenny) of Cuiltybo, Kiltimagh. Una died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, in the early hours of Sunday, August 23, in the exceptional care of Ballinamore Nursing Home, following a long illness bravely borne.
Una was predeceased by her parents Patrick and Anne, brothers John and Michael, and sister Sheela. She will be forever loved and remembered by her loving husband Peter, sons Darrin and Jonathan, daughter-in-law Rachel, cherished grandchildren Diarmuid and Saoirse, sisters Mary and Ann, brothers Martin and Paddy, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, many great friends and neighbours.
Una’s remains reposed in O’Hora’s Funeral Home on Tuesday evening last. A funeral service was held in the funeral home on Wednesday, followed by cremation afterwards at Shannon Crematorium.
May she rest in peace.
The death has occurred of Josephine (Jo) Osborne of Station View, Kiltimagh. Jo died peacefully following a short illness.
Jo was predeceased by her beloved parents Thomas and Mary Osborne and her sister Adrienne. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her devoted long-term partner Mark, much-loved dog Suzi, sisters Maria, Breda, Christine and Margaret and her partner Stephen, nieces and nephews, extended family, friends and neighbours.
Jo’s funeral service was held on Thursday at Cavan Crematorium.
May she rest in peace.
