When the excitement of the All-Ireland win dies down, if it ever will, club championship action returns this weekend.
Kiltimagh’s Intermediate campaign gets underway this Saturday, August 8th, at home to Islandeady at Gilmartin Park. Throw-in is at 6.30pm, and a large home support is expected as the club looks to make a positive start to life back in the intermediate grade.
Kiltimagh will travel to face Kilmaine on Saturday, August 15th, for Round Two, and they will take on Ardnaree in Round Three at a neutral venue, with details to be confirmed later. The club is encouraging supporters to come along to Gilmartin Park on Saturday to cheer the team on.
On Saturday, the club will also honour the players who captured the Intermediate Championship title in 2001, marking the 25th anniversary of that success. Members of the victorious panel are expected to attend the special half-time presentation, allowing supporters to acknowledge their contribution to the club's history. The team, captained by Ger McNicholas, got the better of Kilmaine by 0-10 to 0-09 in Garrymore to capture the title. Ger was injured and unable to play on the day, and the cup was accepted by Peter Burke.
In a closely fought final, Kiltimagh showed outstanding teamwork, fitness and determination to edge a contest they largely controlled. After trailing early on, they finished the first half strongly and led 0-5 to 0-4 at the interval.
Shane Gilmartin opened Kiltimagh’s scoring with a point from play before Damien Gallagher put them ahead with a fine long-range effort. Noel Lydon then added a point, and Christy Walsh sent over a 21-yard free, before adding another with a well-struck 45.
Mick Regan and Christy Walsh, with two further frees, scored for Kiltimagh after the break. Gary Smith added another point from a long-range free, while Christy Walsh converted another free to give Kiltimagh the winning margin.
Kiltimagh's defence held firm through a tense closing period to secure the one-point victory and spark jubilant celebrations among the players, mentors and their large travelling support. Let’s hope 2026 brings a repeat of this success.

Kiltimagh Knock United is inviting young footballers from the area to become part of the club's new Under-21 squad ahead of the upcoming season.
The club has launched a recruitment campaign as it prepares to field the new team, providing another opportunity for young players to continue their football development while representing their local club. The squad is open to players born between 2006 and 2010 inclusive, with club officials encouraging anyone interested to register their interest.
Kiltimagh Knock United says the new Under-21 team will offer players the chance to develop their skills in a competitive environment while enjoying the strong community spirit for which the club is well known. The initiative will also provide an important pathway for players progressing from underage football into the adult game.

There was another enjoyable night at the weekly 25 Card Drive, with a strong turnout and plenty of close contests throughout the evening.
First prize went to Philip Moore and Jack Pidgeon, who finished on top after a consistent performance. Joint second place was shared by Paddy Carney and James Walsh, Margaret Waters and John Clancy, and Mary and Liam Moran, with all three pairings ending the night level after a closely fought competition.
The Last 10 prize was shared by Joe Boyle and Jack Ryan and Chris Flatley and Manus Kilcoyne. Francis McNicholas and Tom Walsh claimed the spot prize.
Raffle winners on the night were Sharon Heerin, Francis McNicholas, Paddy Carney and Anne Rowley.
Katie Mallee was the winner of Kiltimagh GAA Club’s weekly 50/50 draw last week, taking home €575. In the previous week’s draw, Fionn Langan collected €503. The club congratulated both winners on their success. The club also thanked everyone who continues to support the weekly fundraiser. Funds raised through the draw help provide underage coaching, maintain club facilities and support ongoing development projects. Tickets are available online and through local shops and pubs.
Tony Langan was the winner of the Kiltimagh Knock United Soccer Club 50/50 draw last week, collecting €626. The club congratulated Tony on the win.
The club also thanked everyone who continues to support the weekly fundraiser. Proceeds from the draw help fund teams, coaching programmes and the ongoing development of club facilities. Tickets are available online and from local shops and pubs each week.
The Society of St Vincent de Paul provides a wide range of support to individuals and families experiencing difficulties, with local volunteers working throughout the community to assist people who may be in need.
SVP operates local charity initiatives and provides services through offices, shops, resource centres, housing, day care and holiday schemes. The organisation also recognises the importance of supporting people who may face financial barriers in accessing education and training.

A group of 29 family members, friends and fellow runners from Kiltimagh will take part in the 2026 Dublin City Marathon in October in memory of the late Shane 'Peach' Freeman, while raising funds for Mayo Roscommon Hospice.
Running was a major part of Shane’s life, with two Dublin Marathons completed before his diagnosis with colorectal cancer at the age of 44. Throughout his illness, he was admired for his courage, positivity and resilience, while Mayo Roscommon Hospice provided vital support to Shane and his family.
Known as ‘Peach’s Runners’, the group hopes to honour Shane’s memory while raising funds for the hospice and helping other families access its services.
The death has occurred of Thomas (Tom) Maloney of Mount Anville Park, Dublin 14, and formerly of Kiltimagh. Tom died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, at St Vincent's University Hospital.
Tom was predeceased by his brother Micheal. He will be forever loved and very sadly missed by his beloved wife Josephine, daughters Anne and Helen, son Michael, adored grandchildren Ross, Andrew, Kira, Aidan and Holly, daughter-in-law Frances, sons-in-law Richard and Darragh, sister Noreen, brother Jim, extended family, neighbours and a wide circle of friends.
Tom’s remains reposed at Massey Bros Funeral Home, Goatstown, on Monday, July 27th, and his Funeral Mass was held on Tuesday in the Church of St Thérèse, Mount Merrion, followed by burial afterwards in Kilternan Cemetery Park.
May he rest in peace.
