Hyundai's Inster EV is competitively priced

While designated as a small city car, this four-seater is closer to a larger B-SUV model with a longer wheelbase than the brand’s Kona.

Hyundai’s cute Inster city hatchback has gone on sale here competitively priced from €18,995 to €25,000.

While designated as a small city car, this four-seater is closer to a larger B-SUV model with a longer wheelbase than the brand’s Kona and having more headroom.

The very spacious interior boasts impressive levels of comfort, fit and finish and potential buyers will be surprised at how roomy the car is, especially for the two people seated in the rear who will enjoy big head and legroom as rear seats can slide back and forth 16cm independently to increase boot space or to capitalise on legroom if needed.

Boot space of 351 litres is the highest in its class. All seats, including the driver’s seat, fold completely flat to provide 1,059 litres of cargo space - providing a comfy space for an overnight if required.

The car’s long list of features include a 10.25-inch driver’s instrument cluster and a similarly large infotainment screen, Hyundai’s Smart Sense ADAS and safety features; rear parking sensors, heated seats/steering wheel. The steering wheel is from the brand’s Ioniq5 electric car.

Inster has a range of 327km on a single charge from the 42Wh pack and up to 360km from the 49kWh pack. An onboard 11kW charger is provided. The battery can charge from 10 to 80% in 30 minutes using a 120kW DC charging station, and the charger is conveniently located at the front of the car.

The launch price for the Signature trim with the smaller battery is €18,995 and €21,995 for the Elegance trim with the larger battery. Hyundai said these prices may not last beyond this summer. So far, 400 people have ordered an Inster ‘sight unseen’ with most opting for the higher-specced Elegance version. Hyundai expects to sell 1,000 units of the Inster this year. In a first for Hyundai in Ireland, customers can order their Inster online.

A van version is coming towards the end of this year.
