Islandeady Fun Run is a resounding success

The Islandeady community was alive with energy and enthusiasm on Saturday of the August Bank Holiday weekend. Runners, walkers, and spectators gathered for the highly anticipated annual Islandeady Fun Run. 

Hosted by the Islandeady Cycling Club, in partnership with Westport AC, the event was more than just a run; it was a celebration of community spirit, fitness, and charity, drawing participants from near and far.

Set against the picturesque backdrop of Jack's Old Cottage in Islandeady, Castlebar, the event featured both 5K and 10K routes that catered to participants of all fitness levels. Whether it was a leisurely walk or a competitive race, there was something for everyone. The scenic course, officially measured and certified by Athletics Ireland, added to the enjoyment of the day, with chip timing ensuring accurate results for all competitors.

The event kicked off promptly at 10am with runners and walkers gathering at Jack’s Cottage in Derrycooraune. The 5K participants enjoyed a single scenic loop, while the 10K competitors took on the challenge of completing the circuit twice. The morning’s cool breeze and the community’s cheers provided the perfect atmosphere as participants made their way through the stunning landscape of Islandeady.

In addition to promoting physical fitness, the Islandeady Fun Run was a fundraising event, with all proceeds going towards the Islandeady Community Council and Islandeady GAA/LGFA. This year’s run was particularly special, as it brought together individuals and families eager to contribute to the well-being of their community while enjoying a day of outdoor activity.

A key highlight of the event was the seamless organisation by the dedicated volunteers, who ensured that everything ran smoothly from registration to the finish line.

The sense of community and camaraderie was palpable throughout the day, with participants and spectators alike enjoying the festive atmosphere. The post-race gathering at Jack’s Cottage was a true celebration, where everyone had the opportunity to relax, share stories of their race, and enjoy the company of neighbours and friends.
