Irish Open hope for Mayo golf course

Mayo County Council’s Director of Services for Tourism is backing a plan to bring the Irish Open to Carne Golf Links in Belmullet.

Tom Gilligan told last week’s Economic and Enterprise Development Strategic Policy Committee that it is the ambition to bring the tournament to Erris.

“That is what we all want, and we are working with the whole golf network on this. As we know, the Ryder Cup is coming to Ireland next year and that will give us great training and experience as to how we can utilise and make the most of these events.”
