Intercultural music experience in Ballina

With a taste for theatrics and improvisation, Los Hostes offer a mesmerising show.

Los Hostes bring their unique blend of funk, jigs, ragas, reels, and alpine harmonies to Ballina Arts Centre on Wednesday, February 11th.

This show involves the audience in intimate comraderie of inter-cultural, genre-hopping, folk, and original music.

With a taste for theatrics and improvisation, Los Hostes move between soft, lyrical songs and heart-lifting dance tunes, taking the listener from the coasts of Ireland, across the high Alps to the Balkan peninsula.

Claudia Schwab (violin and voice) is a Sligo-based, Austrian, violinist, singer, yodeller, and composer. She has released three CDs and performed on numerous other recordings. The recipient of a number of Irish and international awards, she was recently commissioned to write for the NCH Sounding the Feminists Commissioning Scheme.

Matija Solce (accordion and voice) is a musician, puppeteer, actor, and director whose concerts often turn into interactive theatre performances, and whose puppet shows become musical compositions. Matija has received over thirty awards for his work and also manages to find the time to organise musical festivals across the globe.

Aleš Zorec (drums) is an acclaimed percussionist and jazz drummer who has recorded and toured extensively with ethno-jazz bands Karavana iluzij and Istanbul. More recently he has been making music for theatre and dance performances.

These three exceptional musicians work together to create a musical experience which is as expansive as it is enthralling. Book your chance to see them on the Ballina Arts Centre website or at the box office at 096-73593. Tickets €18/€16 (plus booking fee).
