The seventh edition of Clann Mhuiris, the annual journal of Claremorris Historical Society, was launched in Claremorris Library on Friday, November 17, by well-known Claremorris native, Fr Des Walsh.

The large attendance was treated to a witty commentary on the latest edition as well as many humorous and nostalgic reminiscences as Fr Des spoke of life in Claremorris when he was growing up.

Pat Keane, of Claremorris Historical Society, extended a warm welcome to all of the contributors present, particularly Patrick Picking, who, with his sister Rita, had travelled all the way from Detroit in Michigan to be in attendance. Patrick and his wife Sharon are currently restoring their ancestral home on Mount Street.

Other contributors present included Finola O’Mahony (Dublin), Dr Michael O’Connor (Murrisk), Marie Creighton (Claremorris), Ger Delaney (Hollymount) and editor, Colmán Ó Raghallaigh.

Priced at just €10, and featuring many rare photographs, Clann Mhuiris will once again make an ideal Christmas gift for Claremorris people at home and abroad.

It is available from the usual outlets in Claremorris and Ballindine as well as the Castle Book Shop in Castlebar.
