Ballina athlete Seamus Clarke has been selected to represent Ireland at the World Race Walking Team Championships in Brasília next month.
The Moy Valley AC athlete’s selection comes off the back of achieving the U20 qualification standard for the tournament in Brazil over the 10,000m distance. There is double delight in the Clarke household; Seamus is coached by his mother Deirdre.
His selection for the World Championships, alongside Matthew Newell (Castlegar AC) and John Glennon (Mullingar Harriers), is the latest in a long line of athletic achievements for the Ballina man.
Seamus claimed his first All-Ireland senior medal at the Athletics Ireland 123.ie National Senior Indoor Championships held at the National Indoor Arena, Dublin earlier this month.
He finished second in the men's 5000m walk in a personal best time of 20m33s, which is a new national U20 record for the distance.
