There was more national success for Moy Valley Athletic Club last Sunday as Jake O’Brien took home gold at the 123.ie National Race Walking Championships & World Race Walking Tour in Raheny.

O’Brien, who was back in action after missing the outdoor track season, put in a great performance to take the U23 10km title with a brilliant performance in a time of 45:20.

There was also medal success for Pearl Sands in the U16 girls 5km with a personal best time of 26:36, finishing with a bronze medal. Her club teammate Lillian O’Brien also put in an excellent showing in the same race, finishing fifth with a personal best time of 28:07 in what was a first for both athletes at this distance.

There was disappointment however for international stars Seamus Clarke and Siobhan O'Reilly in their respective races. Clarke, who won a European U18 silver last summer, withdrew from his race in the U20 10km after 8km with tight hamstrings while Siobhan was unable to compete in her own respective 10k race due to illness.
