Glorious sun for county championships

Athletics: The B&J Chambers Mayo Even Ages Cross Country Championships together with the Senior and Master League were hosted by Westport Athletic Club at Westport House Estate. Despite very heavy rain in the days beforehand, underfoot conditions were very good and the sun shone for the duration of the competitions which made it a very enjoyable day for all.

Athletes travelled from all corners of Mayo to compete, many of whom were newcomers to competitive athletics. They and other more experienced competitors were all there to give it their all and try and qualify for the Connacht championships.

Thanks is expressed to Westport Athletic Club for hosting the event, to all the officials who officiated to ensure the smooth running of the competition, and to the management of Westport House for the use of their fine facilities and the Mayo Civil Defence who were in attendance on the day.
