Glorious Geesala hosts cross country championships

Athletics: More than 500 athletes from across Mayo travelled to Doolough in Geesala for the Westnet Mayo Even Ages, Senior and Masters Cross Country Championships, hosted by Erris Athletic Club.

Despite heavy showers early in the day, conditions improved considerably, with sunshine greeting competitors throughout the programme of races. The scenic setting of sandy banks and miles of unspoilt coastline provided a fitting backdrop for a highly successful day of competition.

Event organisers expressed their appreciation to all who helped make the championships possible, including volunteers from Erris AC, Belmullet Order of Malta, the Mayo Athletics County Board and officials from clubs throughout the county.

Attention now turns to the Connacht Championships, which will take place at Roscommon Racecourse on October 25, where Mayo athletes will bid for provincial honours.
