Gardaí have taken part in a day of action to target an organised crime group with connections to Ireland, Malta and the United Kingdom.

It was part of an online fraud investigation into 200 Maltese nationals, resulting in losses of around €1 million.

Gardaí from the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau carried out the day of action in coordination with Europol and authorities in Malta and the United Kingdom.

Gardaí searched multiple properties in the Donegal area and seized electronic devices of evidential value.

No arrests were made in Ireland, but two people, a 25-year-old woman and an 82-year-old man, were detained in Malta.

Investigations are ongoing, gardaí said.
