Flood prevention works to disrupt Dublin-Waterford trains for three months

Train services between Dublin and Waterford are being disrupted over the next three months due to flood prevention works on the rail line.
Iarnród Éireann has said that flood prevention works are being undertaken as part of the wider multi-million euro North Quays development.
The major works are to address the recurring flooding issue at Waterford’s Plunkett Train Station which has been ongoing for several decades.
Customers are being advised that the flood defence works will necessitate disruption to some off-peak rail services.
Works will take place from 8am to 14:30pm, Monday to Thursday, until March 26th.
Train services affected include the 7.20am and 10.15am trains from Dublin Heuston to Waterford, which will terminate at Kilkenny. Bus transfers from Kilkenny to Thomastown and Waterford will then transfer rail passengers.
The 11am and 1.05pm Waterford to Dublin Heuston will have bus transfers from Waterford and Thomastown to Kilkenny, and then train services from Kilkenny to Dublin Heuston.
The 9.45am Limerick Junction to Waterford will terminate at Carrick-on-Suir with a bus transfer from there to Waterford.
The works will allow a new electrical signalling system to replace the mechanical system which has been in place, and reinstate track capacity and routes to and from Waterford.
