Double delight for Dylan as Euros come into view

Ballina man Dylan Rice (centre) won two gold medals at the Irish National Jiujitsu Championships.

Martial Arts: A Ballina man in the throes of preparation for this month’s European Jiujitsu Championships gave himself the perfect boost with victory on the double at the Irish Nationals.

Winning five fights out of five, Dylan Rice not only claimed gold in the super heavyweight (97.5kg) class but won the absolute division also.

Dylan, who has only been competing in jujitsu tournaments for the last three years, has had something of a meteoric rise given that he has now won the Irish national belt for two years running. It’s also the second year in-a-row that he has won double gold at the Irish Open.

Twice awarded Competitor of the Year at his home club SBG Ballina, already Dylan has more than 100 career wins to his name and has also competed in professional shows such as Grapple Kings and Chaos, and says he is “primed and firing on all cylinders” ahead of next week’s European Championships which are taking place in Rome.

Dylan thanked Bon Sheekey Fitness for keeping him strong and mobile, Level Up Fightwear for the supply of top quality gear, and his teammates at SBG Ballina for their contributions to his success.
