Councillors call for much-needed works on Manulla bridge

Cllr Michael Kilcoyne said he has received correspondence from motorists about the dangerous railway bridge

Local councillors have called for improvements to be carried out on the railway bridge near Manulla.

Speaking at a recent meeting of Castlebar Municipal District, Independent Cllr Michael Kilcoyne said he has received correspondence from motorists who are concerned about driving in the dark along the narrow bridge. He called on Mayo Co Council to install lighting on a new ESB pole in the area to prevent accidents.

Fianna Fáil Cllr Al McDonnell also highlighted a lack of signage at the Manulla railway bridge and called on the council to rectify the situation as soon as possible.

Party colleague Cllr Blackie Gavin added that new signage should be erected around Castlebar, similar to new signage recently put up in Ballina. Locations such as Milebush/Solar 21 Park and Lough Lannagh were not sufficiently signposted and "this was not good enough for the county town".
