Castlebar Celtic FC is in the midst of a glorious year with not only the first team featuring in this Sunday's Connacht FA Cup Final, but this also actually being the club’s centenary year.
A whole host of events have and will continue to take place to mark 100 years of Castlebar Celtic, including photographic and library exhibitions, a commemorative centenary wall, blitzes, reunion nights and, of course, a gala dinner dance in August. But on June Bank Holiday weekend it was Celtic’s Am Am competition at Castlebar Golf Club that attracted more than 60 teams to take part in what most reckoned was a robust but fair challenge of team golf.
Winners of the ladies competition was the Connaught Telegraph-sponsored team of Gina Kelly, Sheila Baynes, Carmel Moran and Teri Fahy. Runners-up were Dave O'Malley’s team of Loretta O'Malley, Beverly Flynn, Veronica Durcan and Gina Kelly. In the men's section the victors were Coady’s Bar, a team comprised of Martin Newcombe, John Cafferkey, John Henaghan and Patrick Garvey. Runners-up were the Sion Hill Security team of Aled Roberts, Ray Darcy, Tommy Fahy and Connie Darcy.
Castlebar Celtic would like to thank everyone that took part in such a fantastic event and everyone who sponsored tee boxes and spot prizes. Castlebar Celtic would also like to thank Castlebar Golf club for their hospitality and warm welcome shown to our members over the weekend.
