Call to reinstate village placename signs in West Mayo

Independent Cllr John O'Malley.
A Westport councillor is calling for the reinstatement of village placename signs along the new N5 Westport to Turlough road. The signs were removed while the road was being built.
Not for the first time, Independent Cllr John O’Malley raised the matter at the Westport-Belmullet Municipal District meeting last week.
“The council took down the signs for villages along the roads such as Cogaula and Faiche and people can’t find them now. There’s just a number on them instead. It’s the same thing for Ballinlough and in Slogger. The name should be left on the road. I think this new signage will have to be changed. It’s a pure ridiculous situation."
Head of the municipal district Seamus O'Mongáin said he would speak separately with councillors on the matter and have a look at specific placenames in question.
