Billy wins gold for Ireland and is World Cup bound

David Alexander, chairperson, and Padraig Munnelly, treasurer, make a presentation of behalf of the Killala Live festival committee to Billy Gilvarry.
Angling: 20-year-old Billy Gilvarry from Ross, Killala has been celebrating a great achievement after winning gold while representing Ireland’s U23 shore angling team at the SALC Home Nations. The competition was fished in Coleraine over three days at the beginning of July.
Billy, who is a member of Killala Boat and Shore Angling Club, has also qualified to compete for Ireland’s U21 team at the World Championships, which will be held in Spain in September. Next Sunday, July 20, there will be a fundraising fishing competition and raffle held to help raise funds for the team travelling to Spain. The fishing competition will be held in Killala from 12 to 4pm and all competitors must provide an IFSA Affiliation number. Anyone wishing to support Billy and his teammates on their self-funded trip, can do so by purchasing a ticket for the raffle. All enquiries can be made to Billy 087-2128175.

Thanks has also been extended to Killala Live festival committee for their generous donation to assist in Billy’s fundraising. Everyone on the committee is proud of Billy's achievements to date and wishes him the very best of luck for the World Championships.
