Belmullet 'does not get a mention' on chain of office

The outgoing Cathaoirleach of Westport-Belmullet Municipal District has called for a new chain of office to be provided for both the Cathaoirleach and Leas Cathaoirleach that should properly represent the whole district, including Belmullet.
Cllr Peter Flynn told the June meeting of the authority that Belmullet does not get a mention on the current chain of office, which predates the founding of the municipal district in 2013.
"That just shows the lack of respect and disregard there is for the municipal district itself. It should have its own chain of office, and we should be proud to wear it here and abroad."
Cllr Flynn also called for a chain of office for the Leas Cathaoirleach, "given the geographical size of the district".
Outgoing Leas Cathaoirleach Cllr John O’Malley seconded the proposal, saying he was honoured to wear the chain of office on a trip to Slovenia while deputising for Cllr Flynn, who he thanked for being "very fair and decent" to him during the year, as he told the forum: “In Croatia and Serbia they looked at the chain and were very impressed with it and they are now going to get one for their own Mayor.”
