Ballina native Dylan Rice had double gold-medal success at the Irish Open Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championships, held at the Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena in Blanchardstown, Dublin, last Sunday, 24th May.

The Irish Open is Ireland's largest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu event, attracting competitors from around the world each year.

Dylan won a gold medal in the purple belt ultra heavyweight in the NoGi division, and also won a gold medal in the open weight class NoGi division.

He won all three of his 3 matches in each division by submission, and he had zero points scored against him for the entire tournament.

Dylan paid tribute to his clubmates on the wrestling team at SBG Ballina, who also took home several additional medals from this highly competitive national event.

The Ballina man will now advance to representing Ireland in the European Open Jiu-Jitsu Championships, which will take place in Rome, Italy, next October.
