Ballina Arts Centre to host unique event

Lumiere play with classical bows on gut strings and will offer fresh interpretations of Mozart’s Dissonance Quartet, Mendelssohn’s A minor quartet and Caterina Schembri’s Grüner Strahl.

Ballina Art Centre is offering patrons an early Christmas treat this November when they will host an evening of cheese, wine and classical music with the Lumiere Quartet, an exciting new group led by acclaimed Irish Baroque Orchestra leader Claire Duff.

On Wednesday, November 6th, seating in the auditorium will be arranged in tables of four. Each table will have the opportunity to sample two bottles of wine along with a range of cheeses chosen specially for your Christmas cheeseboards while listening to the Lumiere Quartets' new programme. All this is included in the admission price of only €18.

Lumiere play with classical bows on gut strings and will offer fresh interpretations of Mozart’s Dissonance Quartet, Mendelssohn’s A minor quartet and Caterina Schembri’s Grüner Strahl. The transition between Classicism and Romanticism, as represented by these iconic works, is the inspiration behind Grüner Strahl, which is the name of a rare meteorological phenomenon that sometimes occurs at sunset or sunrise – a green flash above the sun that lasts for a few seconds before disappearing, a fleeting moment of transformation.

This promises to be a relaxed and informal way to enjoy an evening of classical music while sampling some wines and cheeses which will be available locally for your Christmas table. Tickets are available on the Ballina Arts Centre Website or from the box office on 096 73593. Places are limited to forty so early booking is essential.
