Ballina Arts Centre hosts free events for Culture Night

Ballina Arts Centre is delighted to celebrate Culture Night on Friday, September 18, with multiple events for family and friends to enjoy. 

The programme of events starts off with sowing and finger puppet-making at 4pm with Roser Sanchez for children aged 6+. Each child will create a finger puppet, stuffed key ring or simple a house decoration. This two-hour workshop will deliver basic sowing skills in a fun and creative way.

Meet and greet Eugenia Carroll the founder of Art of Tiles. She is a ceramic tiles painter and her work is inspired by traditional Portuguese Azulejos. Eugenia will showcase her work and host a talk with tea and coffee, whilst explaining the process of her work. Join us at 5pm.

BAC technical manager Darren Hallinan, will take you on a one-hour tour of the auditorium at 5.30pm. You will learn how to balance sound boards, how to use the lighting desks, how stage is prepped before a show and how it is managed during a show.

Daniel McMonagle will lead a two-hour Origami workshop from 6pm. His work explores Irish mythology and he believes that origami is far more than a craft - it develops creativity, patience, concentration and problem-solving while encouraging confidence and artistic curiosity. This workshop is suitable for 12+.

At 6pm, join artist Dr Anne-Marie Clarke for a 45-minure printmaking showcase. Dr Clarke holds a B Ed in Fine and Applied Arts with over 40 years’ experience of teaching and facilitation. Her doctoral studies have resulted in a number of published papers on art and education. This talk is suitable for any adult who wishes to deepen their understanding in print.

Finally, at the end of Culture Night, Ballina Arts Centre will host a film screening at 7pm. The film Flow is set in a flooded fantasy world where humans are seemingly absent. When a massive tsunami floods home, a lone cat finds shelter on a passing boat occupied only by a capybara. Together they encounter various other animals in need and drift towards a mysterious tower.
