Three Ballina RFC clubmen who won Grand Slams for Ireland in 2023 will be honoured at the Western People Mayo Sports Stars Awards in just over a fortnight's time.

The Sports Personality of the Year is Lacken native Caelan Doris who was such a pivotal figure in Ireland’s men’s rugby team winning the Six Nations Grand Slam and beating eventual champions South Africa en route to reaching the Rugby World Cup quarter-final.

Doris will start at number 8 for Ireland in tomorrow night's Six Nations opener against France in Marseille.

It was also an excellent year for fellow Ballina RFC clubmates of Doris, Fiachna Barrett and Harry West, who were U20 Grand Slam winners and U20 World Cup Finalists with Ireland for which they will receive the Rugby award.

The 2023 Western People Mayo Sports Stars Awards gala banquet will take place at Breaffy House Resort on the night of Friday, February 16, 2024. The function will include a drinks reception, a three-course meal, wine, the awards ceremony and entertainment. Tickets are priced at €65 per person.
