2025 Mayo League Awards recognises the best in class

The great and the good of Mayo soccer were honoured at the Mayo Football League’s Annual Presentation Dinner which took place last Saturday night in the CastleCourt Hotel.
Among the guests included Mayo deputies Kiera Keogh and Dara Calleary, Senator Mark Duffy, Gerry Tully and John Byrne of the Connacht FA and Pat Duffy of the FAI.
League chairman Gerry Sweeney opened the event and thanked all for attending, with a special mention to Mr Tully and Mr Byrne for their help following recent events in the Mayo League that caused a delay in the 2026 season getting underway.
He welcomed Hall of Fame inductee Michael Ring to the event and wished Mayo FC the best of luck as they begin their journey in the League of Ireland third tier later this year.

Among the big winners on the night were Castlebar Celtic. In addition to seven spots on the Super League Team of the Year, the club were given a Special Achievement Award for retaining the Connacht Junior Cup while Marian Robinson was awarded with the prestigious Clubperson of the Year Award for her unwavering dedication to volunteering with the club for many years.
It was also a night to remember for Mark Cunningham. He picked up the Footballer of the Year award as well as a Recognition award, along with Michael Lavin of Conn Rangers, for lining out with the Irish Amateur international squad.
For Westport United, Michael Ring was inducted into the Hall of Fame for his outstanding contribution to Westport as well as soccer county and nationwide for in his role as a public representative.
Dan O’Malley was a double award winner on the night, picking up Premier League and Young Footballer of the Year.
Other individuals and clubs who received distinctions included Castlebar Town for Club of the Year, Aidan Sweeney (Killala) and John Creaby (Fahy Rovers) were given the Henry Downes Service to Football Awards, Michael English (Achill Rovers) was names Team Manager of the Year while local referee Tom Jennings was given an Appreciation Award for his work on maintaining the facilities at Umbro Park.
