Basketball blitz in Crossmolina

The Boys and Girls Under-13 'A' & 'B' Basketball Blitz took place in Gortnor Abbey, Crossmolina last week.

The first game of the day was between old rivals, Aces and Pacers.
After a tough struggle Aces came out on top with some good performances from Rachel Moran, Tara Chambers, Fiona McLoughlin and Helena Joyce.
Best for Paces were Sarah Caden, Rebecca Culkin and Bidget Popplewell. Final Score: Aces 24, Pacers 11.
The game between the girls from Charlestown and Nephin All Stars produced some great basketball with Nephin winning by 18-16. Sandra Lavin and Marie Marren did well for Charletown while Fional Donnelly, Siobhan Donnelly, Elaine Moyles, Nicola Leonard and Martina Granaghan impressed for Nephin.
In the third game Ballycastle battled bravely but Crossmolina's greater strength saw them through by 22-9.
The first boys game saw Charlestown defeated by Crossmolina by 26-6. Best for Charlestown were Stephen Taheny, Patrick Curry and Thomas Hunt. For Crossmolina Stephen Duffy, James O'Brien, John McGarrigle, Liam O'Meeva, David Garrett and Alan Traynor all impressed.
Charlestown girls then played Pacers and emerged winners. Though smaller in stature they displayed great heart to win by 19-10.

Ballycastle raised their game to beat Aces in the next round by 18-6. There was a resounding win for Crossmolina in their local derby clash with Nephin All Stars.
Best for Crossmolina were Michelle Carolan, Niamh Dolan, Emer Munnelly, Catriona Gibbons, Jacqueline Lavelle, Breda Hegarty and Claire Greham.
For Nephin, Nicola Byrne, Una Mayock, Nicola Leonard, Aoife Murphy, Elaine Moyles, Amanda Murphy, Sarah O'Malley and Lisa Maughan all featured prominently.
Crossmomlina went on to beat Pacers by 6-2. Pacers were best served by Eilish Crehan, Gail Murphy and Shauna Lavelle while Victoria Carolan, Aoife Waters, Rosanna Loftus, Grace Howley, Sara Moffatt, Emer O'Malley and Rebecca Walsh impressed for Crossmolina.
Nephin All Stars defeated Aces with Maura O'Malley, Siobhan Donnelly, Martina Granaghan, Fiona Mulhern and Fiona Donnelly turning in good performances.
Ballycastle won their game against Charlestown while the Crossmolina boys beat Charlestown in both their A & B games.
