Tues, 14th May: Newmarket on Fergus Co Clare declared winners in Dolmio final

The Newmarket on Fergus team from Co Clare were declared the winners at the national final of the Dolmio Creative Challenge competition, which was held at the national AGM in Clonmel, Co Tipperary on Saturday. The result represented a tremendous achievement for the club who also won the National final last year with an entirely different team. The winners received trophies and a cheque for EUR1,300 from sponsors Dolmio.

The runners up in the competition were the Blackwater club from Co. Wexford, and in joint third place were Broomfield from Monaghan and Crookstown from the Muskerry region in Cork.

The runners up received trophies and a cheque for EUR650 with the third placed teams receiving EUR200 each. Dolmio also presented all team members with hampers. The teams were taking part in four different tasks at the Central Technical Institute in Clonmel. These included a Computer Task, creating an advertisement for Dolmio for the Macra magazine, a Cookery Task, preparing a two course meal for two people using Dolmio pasta, a "Be Creative" section where competitors used their creative skills to create a wall or table feature and including pasta in the materials used.

Finally a woodwork task, requesting competitors to make a kitchen unit wall unit or stand alone) suitable for storing Dolmio products.

Patrick Brady Head Chef with Dolmio, who judged the Cookery Task, stated that Masterfoods and Dolmio were delighted to be associated with the competition and would continue to be so as long as the standard and enjoyment of all participants remained at the same high level.
