Former Wet Wet Wet front man Marti Pellow will reprise his role as Billy Flynn in the musical “Chicago”, which opens in Dublin’s Point Theatre on 22nd April for 23 performances only. This follows his critically acclaimed triumph playing the part in the West End production for six months, and his current role in the Broadway production. Marti Pellow recently released his new album “Marti Sings The Hits Of Wet Wet Wet And Smile” on Universal Records. Other members of the cast of the show include Emma Clifford, who comes direct to the international tour of “Chicago” from playing Young Sally in the recent London production of “Follies”. Her other musical credits include the national tours of “Oh, What A Night!”, “West Side Story” and “Joseph And His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”. Lisa Donmall’s recent West End credits include “Sweet Charity”, “Chicago” and “Crazy For You” while Martin Callaghan featured in the recent West End production of “Jesus Christ Superstar” and appeared in the national tours of “Aspects Of Love” and “Joseph And His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”.
“Chicago” opened at the Adelphi Theatre in London on 18th November, 1997, to rave reviews and sell-out business. The show recently celebrated its 5th Birthday in the West End. It continues to be a smash hit and is currently booking until 30 March, 2003. The Oscar-nominated film of the musical starring Renée Zellweger as Roxie Hart, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Velma Kelly and Richard Gere as Billy Flynn had its world premiere on 8th December in London. “Chicago” won the 1998 Laurence Olivier Award for ‘Outstanding Musical Production’, as well as the 1998 Critics Circle Drama Award for ‘Best Musical’. “Chicago”, which is based on the play by Maurine Dallas Watkins, has a book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb. Scenic design is by John Lee Beatty, costume design by William Ivey Long, lighting by Ken Billington, sound by Rick Clarke and musical supervision by Rob Fisher. “Chicago” is choreographed by Ann Reinking and directed by Walter Bobbie.
