Moylette storms into senior final
BY MAJELLA LOFTUS
RAYMOND Moylette took a massive step closer to his first ever National Senior title when he beat defending champion, Philip Sutcliffe from Crumlin in the semi-finals on Friday night last at the National Stadium.
World Youth Champion, Moylette was four points down in the first round of a full blooded duel against the reigning 64kg champion, but turned things around in spectacular fashion to lead by eight points to five at the end of the second round.
Both boxers conceded two points apiece after receiving public warnings in the third, leaving the score at ten points to eight to Westport’s ace Moylette.
Despite being put under enormous pressure from Sutcliffe in the final two minutes, Moylette held out to win by the two-point margin. He will now meet Stephen Donnelly of the AllSaints club in the 64kg final next weekend.
Sligo’s Alan Reynolds, a five time Irish senior champion in the past, beat Drimnagh heavyweight Jimmy Sweeney by three points to seven and will now meet Con Sheehan of Clonmel in the final.
