Meditation group buys island off Mayo coast

An island off Mayo’s coast is to become the capital of peace after been bought by a meditation guru. The Global Country of World Peace has announced that it had purchased Inishraher Island with the intention of setting up an international Peace Centre.
The group, which promotes peace and prosperity, bought the 30-acre island from Westport man Colm Cronin. Mr Cronin told the Western People that he had planning permission for a training centre on the island but he was unaware of any future plans for the area.
However, at a recent conference held in Dublin, The Global Country of World Peace, a group formed by transcendental meditation guru Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, announced their plans for the Mayo island. The group pointed out that Inishraher would be designated as a Maharishi Capital of the Global Country of World Peace. The international Peace Centre to be built on the island will make accessible the Transcendental Meditation technique and a variety of Maharishi’s teachings including a preventative approach to mental and physical well being.
The attainment of permanent world peace has been the aim of The Global Country of World Peace since it was established in 2000. The group lives by the idea of promoting the peace and prosperity of every individual and every nation through transcendental meditation and the observance of natural law.
Maharishi is widely regarded as the foremost scientist in the field of consciousness and his teachings have become famous worldwide with the broadcasting of the Maharishi channel in India and the Maharishi Open University.
