How old engine club gives vintage help to African charities
THE Mayo North Old Engine and Tractor Club was set up in 1999 by a group of vintage enthusiasts. The members interests include vintage tractors, cars, motor cycles and farm machinery.
Michael Dockery, PRO of the club, talks of how the local interest developed quickly and members found themselves looking for a suitable site to hold their first show. Thanks to Ms Susan Kellett, of Enniscoe House, a site was made available.
Michael said: “The first show was held in July, 2000. It was a resounding success and has improved each successive year. Little did the members at the time realise the success the club would achieve, to become one of the largest shows in the West of Ireland, solely due to the hard work and dedication of its members.
“The club to date has donated in excess of €80,000 to local and national charities, mainly due to the large crowds that attend their annual show and field day each year. The club has also donated tractors and farm machinery to various charities in Africa. The club tries to foster and encourage the interest of restoring, maintaining and displaying of vintage artefacts for the benefit of present and future generations.
