LONDON issued a warning to the Connacht Championship with a stunning win over Sligo last weekend.
Sligo’s last championship game had seen them score only four points when losing by nine to Kildare in the 2012 qualifiers. And this year’s league campaign offered no obvious sign of improvement when they only avoided relegation to London’s Division 4 with victory over Wicklow on the very last day.
But if ever a team had earned their good fortune it was Paul Coggins’ side. So when James Kilcullen, Mark Breheny and Brian Curran played in Sligo full-forward Pat Hughes whose fisted effort rebounded, and the ball scrambled over the end-line, the next kick-out was greeted by the full-time whistle and celebrations the likes Ruislip had never before witnessed.
