The Mayo senior football team will have the advantage of four home games in 2013 when they continue their streak as the current longest serving team in Division 1 of the National Football League.
The Green and Red have been playing top flight football every year since 1997 and will no doubt welcome opening next season’s campaign with a pair of home fixtures on the first two Sundays of February, the first of which will see Eamonn Fitzmaurice take charge of Kerry for the first time competitively.
Mickey Harte’s newly promoted Tyrone are the visitors in Round 2 before Mayo travel to Dublin and Down for Saturday night floodlit games. The dates of all fixtures are at present only proposed, but as of now the only game scheduled to be played under floodlights in Elverys McHale Park in Castlebar is the visit of Kildare on the eve of St Patrick’s Day.
Donegal are due to visit Castlebar on the last Sunday in March in a re-match of the All-Ireland final before Mayo wind up their Division 1 campaign with a trip to Cork on April 7 in a re-match of this year’s NFL final.
